Might depend on which part of Africa you're talking about. The Congo basin for instance was used to much worse conditions than those seen in the western world. Cannibalism was an everyday occurence until the early 20th century.jonesthecurl wrote:One of the things which I discovered when in Ghana was that yes, the local tribes had traditionally engaged in slavery, it was the main reason for warfare (winner gets the enemy as slaves), but the treatment of those slaves was nothing like as vicious as the European treatment of African slaves. Many slaves were sold to the Europeans by other tribes, but whether they realised how different the treatment would be, I don't know.
Another fact for your list: according to my "History of Ghana", most slaves went to South America, not North.
You fukn Belgium bastards destroyed the African culture in The Congo.waauw wrote:These aren't "facts about slavery they don't want you to know". Half of these are universally known facts. Everybody who's ever held even a single book on african history knows this.

I like how you capitalized 'The' Congo, as in that it's the one and only Congo, as opposed to the french Congo Brazzaville.Bernie Sanders wrote:You fukn Belgium bastards destroyed the African culture in The Congo.waauw wrote:These aren't "facts about slavery they don't want you to know". The worst decision that Europe made was to create Belgium.

I said Belgium bastards, not the civilized French.waauw wrote:I like how you capitalized 'The' Congo, as in that it's the one and only Congo, as opposed to the french Congo Brazzaville.Bernie Sanders wrote:You fukn Belgium bastards destroyed the African culture in The Congo.waauw wrote:These aren't "facts about slavery they don't want you to know". Another group evil would be proud of.

Oh Bern! I do think you made personal growth today. This is the first time I ever heard you speak positively about France. Now, of course I agree Leopold II is a brutal monster. He's widely regarded as the greatest stain on our Belgian history, a bit like your american genocide of the indians.Bernie Sanders wrote:We ain't talking French Congo.
