First off, I need to tell you the story.

In 2009, a team in Seattle (owned by comedian Drew Carey) will start play. He has allowed fans to vote on a name. The favorite at first was "Seattle Sounders," after the NASL (the league with the New York Cosmos) and now USL (American 2nd division soccer) team with plenty of history in the area. However, the name was not included as an option (Seattle FC, Seattle Alliance, and Seattle Republic were options). All 3 options sound stupid. However, write-ins are allowed. Let's do MLS a favor and save it from one of the 3 cheesy names. If you want, vote for Seattle Sounders.

Seattle Sounders FC was announced as the team name on April 7, 2008 along with the team logo, colors and badge design at a presentation at the Seattle Space Needle. The commissioner of MLS Don Garber acknowledged that the Sounders name is a popular fan favorite which initiated the addition of the write-in vote. Of the 14,500 votes received for the new team name, 50% were write in votes, 49% of which included a derivative of the name Sounders.
