I'd say doodle earth is a bit more luck dependent than Luxembourg. In defense of Lux, the main strategy seems to me to be if/when to go for lux city. That alone can make or break the game.

However, you're right, a lucky 3 card rainbow, blue, or even green can win it for you. Heck a good escalating cash with a few autodeploys can do it. Also, lucky rolls, great bonus drops, etc.

DiM's following post jogged my memory about this old topic. Though this topic is a mix of both 'bad' gameplay and 'graphic ugliness,' I think it still can attract some discussion.

Subject: Which map is the prettiest?

nice joke. i think you got the wrong thread. you're looking for the ugliest crappiest blandest looking map thread. i can't even imagine how oaktown managed to get from High Seas or Duck&Cover which are great looking maps to that atrocious, horribly drawn, texture intensive, washed out, monstrosity.

In terms of maps with ugly or underwhelming graphics, I'd probably put France, Luxembourgh, Malta, San Marino with a quick glance on of the Browse Maps page. (Sorry Ruben, wherever you are.)

Feudal Epic has to be the worst map on CC. Playing it in the fog is a large exercise in flipping a coin, and hoping you guess right.

The worst map is the hive in overall aspect. That means that it sucks on everything. Size, graphs, gameplay, combination of colors. All in it is awful

In gameplay, i think Stalingrad is a nightmare to play without add-ons. The legend is not clear about which territory attacks which, and the bonuses are a riddle

Ancient Greece need a graphical revamp to get the level of the other maps. it looks ugly and mediocre in comparison. Something similar happens to Alexander empire and disc world. Those look outdated.

The colors of Australia rail are kind of depressing...this is very subjective but I'm simply not fond on that combination of colors.

Another crappy map is the moon. Graphically is very bad, and the game play...bah

Graphically, sure, it was my 2nd map and I used an old 15" laptop and paint.net to make it... but gameplay? Lunar has a fucking genius gameplay.

Anyway... the worst map in CC? Usapocalypse.

Well the map is just graphically unappealing... also, the gameplay is boring.

Also, North America - this is a map that could use a revamp. It's gameplay is probably ok, but the map is so damn ugly...

Yes, crossword fits its theme very well. USA Apocalypse is brilliant given its context - it actually encouraged careful consideration of region counting as there was a good risk/reward tradeoff for the radiation nexuses.

Worst map?

I see that 2 years ago I voted conquer man. For anything but unlimited quads, I still think it's awful. The Hive is similar - only good for large team games (I feel the same way about the big first nations map). For all around never play again hated, I think I'd pick Antarctica and Baseball. As soon as I crossmap them, never again baby.

yep, even crossword. -jota was the first to stray from the classic map recipe.

*Gasp!* I always liked USApocalypse, perhaps more for the nostalgia of playing dubs with No_Risk_No_Fun on it. I think the first one we played was my first victor-y, actually.

Ok, maybe they were the hot shit when they came out, but by today's standards, they have poor graphics and mediocre gameplay.

Say, that sounds familiar...

(Looks like we can draw comparisons between CC and video games).

Ha! I love Hive Escalating. I'd hate to play it on No Spoils, though. =) And France is great, too, Mr. Banana Man. The gameplay is straightforward, and I happen to like the colors.

Ugly graphics? Try Discworld and Tamriel. It's a shame, because I love Pratchett and have had many an all-nighter playing the Elder Scrolls.

As far as worst maps go, I tend to dislike maps that encourage bonus monkeys to go rampant when they're playing Escalating. That has less to do with the map than the players, though.

Did I hear you mention monkeys?

I'd agree that North America definitely could use revamp love though.

Cricket and to some extent, Bamboo Jack.
Both maps seem awfully confusing.
