Hey, speaking of Jimi....if you are a fan, it is kinda cool to hear him on this album:

I have it on vinyl (an original from my parents). Some nice, straight-forward R&B playing from a definite Guitar God: Jimi Hendrix.

You know, why make you do all the real work? I YouTubed for a few examples....check it out...and do it justice, turn the volume up and close your eyes, this is music you gotta feel:

I honestly have a hard time listening to classically trained musicians that grew up with a silver spoon in their mouths and years of the best teachers and pampered living....who then decide to grow their hair long and play their distorted classical guitar through an amplifier with a rock band backing them.

It is all so contrived.

I'm not mentioning names.

Alexi Laiho = boring and uninventive
Michael Angelo Batio = cheesy douchebag
Steve Vai = Guitar God
Ingwie Malmsteen = meh, why not just listen to some paganini?

Of course not, there are no names to mention. You think they have no real talent or creativity? What difference would this fictional upbringing make to their music, anyway? Classical doesn't equal silver spoon. Alexi is meh but the rest are very good.

The fact remains that these guys can shred like motherfuckers and look good doing it. I'm sure there are other GGs in this thread. I didn't read it all.

I haven't checked, but did anyone mention John McLaughlin yet? Frank Zappa? ( My nomination as Best Ever when he could be bothered) Peter Green? Carlos Santana? O'Donel Levi? George Benson? Django Reinhart?)

(You can see that I tend to like Blues and Jazz)
