Even with a "degree" the criteria for teaching in College is far less than that of lower classes. I was teaching college classes as an adjunct with only a MA. I didn't need courses in education itself, or in foreign languages, as I would have if I were to teach in High School or below. I used to muse about becoming a teacher. I had a BS in physics and a MA in computer science. Well the MA meant squat in New York as there is no such thing as Computer Science in the lower grades. When I realized that I had enough points with graduate studies to qualify for physics, I realized that I didn't have the college level foreign language points. (I actually mused about taking Latin just because.) And that just gets you in the door, you still need to go through the formal teaching college credits as well.

My favorite course was "advanced" COBOL. (It was a two year community college, so "advanced" was more like the second course in the series of two.)

Intentionally posting part 3 first as it's most pertinent to the topic matter.
One of the best ways to better understand the context of the present is to better understand the historical context of the past.

Guys, I'm sorry for raising the old topic and offtopic, but I did not know what topic to write my request on, so I am writing here. I hope for your understanding. I am very concerned about the topic of transforming the higher education system. I wanted to ask you what ways you see to improve it?

Whatever happened to the idea of making people pass a catchpa to sign up to CC?

Does it cost $0.05 per month to license a catchpa and BigWhim is too cheap?
