That's because no one in the DPRK has the freedom to make their own decisions regarding use of these things..
We could debate that all day! However, it is without debate that no one in the west has that freedom - those decisions are made by the multi-billionaire owners of the Facebook Corporation --- even an elected government authority doesn't have influence to control these captains of industry in what and how they decide to use private citizens private information.
I disagree..

We all have the freedom not to use these services.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree!

You "have" the freedom not to use the telephone, but could you function in society without it? With difficulty.

There comes a point when "freedom" exists as a technicality only. The unelected bosses of Facebook and Google control the people's information, not the people, not even their elected representatives.

LOL, now ol' Saxi has March of the Songun Idea stuck in his head! I'll be whistling that darn song all day! ACK! :P

I agree in principle. However, when it comes to facebook... I do not believe it is anywhere near the level of need for a telephone. Even many of the Amish use telephones.

Interesting how saxi promotes unity and rainbows until it stains his boxers.

As for the DPRK I feel they should be the the 2nd nation to experience fusion. AMERICAN style.

LOL GabonX! *Saxi Tickles GabonX!*

Whashername is not on the Left like ol' Saxi. She's a reactionary conservative who has herself convinced she's a progressive, but actually enjoys pandering to the ruling elite. Unfortunately Saxi is one of the few, real progressives on CC. :(

Anywho, back to the DPRK.

I note that today is the anniversary of the Kwangju Uprising, when farmers and workers of "South" Korea spontaneously rose up in peaceful demonstrations at their yearning to be reunited with the DPRK and to end the brutal military regime of Hanahoe. "South" Korea's response? Open fire with automatic weapons, killing hundreds of civilians.

This event is annually commemorated by the revolutionary red-banner vanguard of the Worker's Party of Korea. Today all progressive-minded people yearn for the day when Koreans will be peacefully reunited into a prosperous and democratic society.

Anywho, on a lighter note, here is a :P SUPER-CUTIE-PIE :P DPRK child performing that great anthem of global socialist unity, L'Internationale, on piano!

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheNORTHKOR ... GNuR0ml7QA

Ol' Saxi remembers learning L'Internationale in kindergarten as well!!! MEMORIES, gang!

And if those cannibals keep trying,
To sacrifice us to their pride,
They soon shall hear the bullets flying,
We'll shoot the generals on our own side!

Also, only the DPRK has discovered nuclear fusion. Minor point of correction. :)

They may have just made that up..

We've yet to see any evidence or verification other than their own claims.

Unfortunately, western censors don't allow access to the DPRK's Kwangmyong network and people in the west are - as a result - dependent on the Internet network for their information. Hopefully, one day, westerners will be given the freedom to access the Kwangmyong. I think this is the hope of everyone who believes in democracy. Then we can all enjoy the technological achievements that are possible when the full apparatus of industry is mobilized in service to the people.

Perhaps its the freedom loving DPRK not allowing U.N. inspections access. That and media censorship.

A few of these will give us proper access.

Would the United States, France or United Kingdom allow the UN to inspect their nuclear facilities?

Why would a republic that has fought hard to be ruled by the people bow down to demands by the princes of capitalism such as the inspectors of the so-called UN?

Saxi. The US is the UN. We do not hide our weapons program. We are self regulated.

BTW where do you think inspectors are instructed?

Now why would a peace loving non dictatorship not allow entry to confirm it's compliance with the rules put in place by the rest of the world?

Hiding something?

Hiding something?
1 - As previously announced, the DPRK has become the world's first nation to develop nuclear fusion. Why should they allow in people to steal and expropriate this important technology that, if properly deployed, will mean a clean, green future of free energy for the world?

2 - The DPRK withdrew from the Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2003, having given the treaty-required 90-days notice to the international community, and is not legally obligated to allow inspections.

3 - Did you watch the video link I posted earlier? How can you not be inspired by the popular acclaim and support the Worker's Party - in unison with the National Front - enjoys?

I believe this is the proper way to inspect and control rogue nations and it's failure to conform to the rule of sanity.

We will dress these inspectors U.N. blue so there will be no confusion for the DPRK.

ACK!

Fortunately the DPRK is a peace-loving nation that complies with its treaty obligations and enjoys solid relations with other democratic, peace-loving nations like Mongolia, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Republic of Cuba, Peru and many others.

I'm pretty sure you've got this reversed...

North Korea restricts the flow of outside information to it's citizens as opposed to the West restricting access to North Korean content. With freedom of information the way it is, Western nations can't even stop the exchange of things they would want to restrict, like child pornography...

What's more, North Korea runs somewhere in the realm of 30 websites which are viewable by Westerners.
By your logic, these government run North Korean websites would all be restricted, but they're not..

The Kwangmyong network is not part of the Internet network, but exists separately and independently of it. As a result, sites on the Kwangmyong network are not accessible by virtually everyone in the west.

It is true the DPRK does operate some sites on the Internet network for the benefit of westerners. Perhaps, one day, western governments will allow their citizens to experience the full richness of content and thought that exists on the Kwangmyong network instead of blocking it off from their citizens and only allowing them access to the capitalist-devised Internet where content can be easily filtered, such as in Australia.

That's the hope of those of us in the progressive movement who are working for a democratic future for the world's children, anyway. Call ol' Saxi a dreamer! :P

I'm convinced that it's North Korea which is restricting both Westerners from accessing their networks, and their citizens from accessing outside information...

Why else would they need to create a bubble network?

How does the fact that North Korea is able to distribute information to the West, but that the West is restricted from distributing information in North Korea make sense in your world view?

I don't believe that's the case.

However, we can agree to disagree, GX! Vibrant disagreement and debate is what makes democracy great and is why we in the progressive movement are so earnest in trying to spread it to the capitalist states in the way that socialist nations have long enjoyed!

Anyway, you're still one of ol' Saxi's FAV posters here, even if you are wrong ... ;) .
