Not the whole army, just out of a few regiments.

Yeah I've heard that before. It's always worked pretty well for me though.

Taekwon-Do is a martial art, but not what's in the Olympics. That is a sport.

A black belt in Tae Kwon Do can kick me in my head in a tournament...

Now let's see him do that in a street fight...

My sensei taught us VERY little respect for that branch of the arts, because none of them can really fight without the aid of another art or form... Learning katas all day and stretching does little for oneself beyond mental strength
Are you serious-serious?

I had the pleasure of watching a fight between the leader of a local school and some old super respected 150th level black-belt in Tae Kwon Do(he was from Spain and was visiting his student, our local teacher). And those two were both ass-kickers. I'm fairly certain I couldn't have beat either with any weapon other than a gun(with a bit of distance).

GRANTED T.K.D. is all about standing and fighting, but that doesn't mean it's a retarded art. You pretty much have to mix and match MOST Martial-Arts. Sure there are a few exceptions, Krav Maga for example.

I reiterate

That's one of the martial arts maxims. "Remember, my son, that a sniper rifle negates all your magical powers". ;)

It simply depends on the style of it.

A hook-kick to the temple will incapacitate an oponent every time. See to me a Martial Art invokes a sense of honor, integrity, and courage that eyegouging and cockpunching don't really invoke. Chinese Kempo is a part of the self-defense branch of the arts. It's gritty, dirty, practical, and simple. Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kung Fu, etc are more spiritual arts as well as practical ones. They have a culture to them that a self-defense class doesn't invoke. At my Tae Kwon Do school we have five key guidelines we are supposed to live by. Courtesy, integrity, perseverence, self-control, and indominable spirit. A real, traditional martial art is far more than just fighting. It needs that extra meaning to make them worthwhile, that is unless you just want to win a fight.
The big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.

You won't feel that way as you wake up covered in bruises and blood.... and have to try to re-set your nose. I know, because it's happened to me.

The honor part is the sport part. But A fight is a fight is a fight. You don't know what to expect... the rules aren't there.

I can beat any of you cocksuckers if you just give me a rusty, old sword, a mace and a loaded AK47.

Actually, just giving me the Ak is enough.

That's one of the cool things about martial arts. The best guys I've ever met have schools in parks, at universities, and the like, and they don't charge much for class. You don't have to fork over a bundle to get quality instruction.

I started my first class in college and bumped into the highest ranking Bando Karateka in the U.S., he promptly invited me to teach his class for a night so his students could see something new. (and I walked out with a few new techniques not common to my system as well).
