Interview with Gilligan
Welcome to the second installment of a series of interview with those in the tournament community. All questions are reader submitted, so if you have something you want to ask an upcoming organizer; PM me. Next week’s interview will be with Steelhorse. If you have not submitted your questions, you have until Tuesday to either PM me, or post in this thread.
In two weeks, our interview will be with MarVal. Feel free to begin submitting your questions now, I have created this thread for that purpose.

Now, on with the interview.

Q: Hello, Gilligan.

A: Hello :)

Q: What made you want to start running tournaments?

A: I started running tournaments in October of 2006, when if I recall correctly, there wasn't too many being run. So I said "What the heck, let's get some tournaments into Conquer Club. Get some going for the public."

Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament ran and first played in.

A: The first tournament I ran and played in was my own, called The Tournament of All Tournaments (Yes, you can laugh at the name, it's horrible .) When I ran it, it was a great experience and it made me want to do more.

Q: Where did you come up with the ideas for your tournaments?

A: I'm not the most creative person, so I usually come up with tournaments with a map-based theme, like my North American Wars, where you play every map in the North American region. Or Who Rules the School?, where you play every map on CCU.

Q: How many tournaments do you currently run at one time?

A: Now, I currently have 5. One just finished a few days ago, today being the 17th of January, I've yet to start a new one. I usually run around 6.

Q: Is there a specific type of format that you tend to gravitate towards? Why?

A: Most of my tournaments ran on "Play the games with your group, person with the most points advances to the final round."

Q: What is your favorite tournament you've run? Why?

A: My favorite tournament? That's a tough one. I loved my 4 Man Madness. In that tournament you had to play a 4 player game on every map. It started in May 2007. It just ended a few days ago. At the time, there were probably only 30-40 maps, so I didn't think it would last that long. It lasted 7 and a half months, the Foundry was working faster than they were playing

Q: What is your favorite tournament you’ve played in?

A: That is again another hard question. I've played in many a great tournaments. Not to sound egotistical, but I love to play in my European Wars.

Q: What do you feel makes a tournament stand out and interesting?

A: Any tournament can feel interesting, you just have to put that element into the theme you want to organize by.

Q: With experience comes the wisdom of knowing what mistakes you've made in the past so you can avoid them in the future. What mistakes have you made in your tournaments that you are sure to avoid in future tournaments?

A: In In Honor of WidowMakers, I made the bracket wrong. That is probably my worst mistake, other than making games with the wrong setting and having them already started. I did that twice.

Q: If there was something that the Conquer Club administrators could implement into the game to make tournaments easier to manage, what would it be? Similarly, is there anything you would like to see taken away from Conquer Club to make running tournaments easier?

A: I would like to see Mass PMing, like most organizers would, and something like 'Your search wielded 48 games.' It's fun to see how many games you've had in each tournament and how many games you've started. Something I'd like to see taken away or shaved down a bit would be the Tournament Dropdown Arrow in Game Finder.

Q: If you could change one thing about Conquer Club in general, what would it be?

A: I really don't think I would change anything major. I might calm down Flame Wars a bit, but other than that, nothing.

Q: If you had to choose a different screen name what would it be?

A: Every screen name I have is Gilligan 8). If it's taken it's either Gilligan53, Gilligan811, Gills53, or Gilligan811.

Q: From your avatars and signatures, I would guess you are a movie fan. What is your favourite movie, and which are you most looking forward to seeing?

A: I like the Star Wars saga, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and pretty much any movie based on a comic book. Yes, I'm a geek  I also look forward to Iron Man

Q: Why do birds sing?

A: They envy Gilligan 8) Well, no, I don't sing, but they envy me.

Q: Any tournaments planned for the future?

A: Of course! But I've yet to start them or tell anyone about them.

Q: Thank you for your time.

A: No, thank you
