Interview with Night Strike
This week we had the chance to shoot a few questions at Night Strike, and he fired back. All questions are reader submitted, so if you have something you want to ask an upcoming organizer; PM me. Next week’s interview will be with a new organizer, Physics=2muchFD. If you have not submitted your questions, you have until Tuesday to either PM me, or post in this thread.
In two weeks, our interview will be with amazzony. Feel free to begin submitting your questions now, I have created this thread for that purpose.

Now, on with the interview.

Q: Hello, Night Strike.

A: Hi Gozar.

Q: What made you want to start running tournaments?

A: I wanted to find a way to contribute to the CC community with a few good ideas that I had.

Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament played in.

A: The first tournament I played in was the second season of yorkie's 1v1 league (now run by amazzony and simor). I did fairly well in it, so I was pleased with that. I then played in FA Premiership (Kahless) with spidey, who has become my typical doubles partner, as well as Ultimate Doubles League (nmhunate). Unfortunately, they were both abandoned. :( But then I found Optimus Prime's tournaments and had better experiences.

Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament ran.

A: The first tournament I ran was Movie Rental Mania. It consisted of 4 players playing 1v1 games against each other in 4 companies. The top two from each division then played as a doubles team against the other companies for two rounds to determine the winner. I felt that is was run smoothly overall, and I made it to the finals.

Q: How excited where you with your first CC win?

A: I was moderately excited. I had lost my first few, so winning was much better.

Q: Where did you come up with the ideas for your tournaments?

A: They are an assortment of tournaments, so there isn't a set method. Movie Rental Mania was from my job, Heroes was based on a show that I like, and Amazing Race is because I wanted a series tournament.

Q: How many tournaments have you run and how long have they been?

A: I have run 3 tournaments with 1 still taking sign-ups (Mod Wars). There will be at least 4 more variations on Amazing Race, and there is a massive Clan vs Clan vs CC tournament in the works. Heroes has taken much longer than I expected it to, but they've been bearable.

Q: Is there a specific type of format that you tend to gravitate towards? Why?

A: I've been avoiding the typical 1v1 or doubles formats. I think those are too common and want to provide other variations. Amazing Race is 3 team doubles, Movie Rental Mania was 1v1 then doubles, and Heroes and Mod Wars are singles with various settings.

Q: What is your favorite tournament you've run? Why?

A: I think the Amazing Race ones are/will be my favorite. This is probably because of the storyline for each round as well as the different gameplay offered by 3-team doubles matches.

Q: What is your favorite tournament you’ve played in?

A: Oh geez, this one is difficult. I would vote for one that I've won, but that hasn't happened yet - although I hope 2007 College Basketball (flexmaster33) changes that. I've enjoyed the Point Grabbers series as well as Disney Heroes Open, which has been my main experience in triples.

Q: With experience comes the wisdom of knowing what mistakes you've made in the past so you can avoid them in the future. What mistakes have you made in your tournaments that you are sure to avoid in future tournaments?

A: My main problem has been with finding a fair and workable method for tiebreakers. That's the problem with group play stages.

Q: Overall, are you playing a lot in tournaments? If not, then why and where do you find your games to play?

A: My guess is that 95% of my games are either tournament or clan games, including ALL of my active games. I'm currently in Amazing Race: USA, 2007 College Basketball, Trip Through Time, Allspark League, Prime's Doubles League, and 1v1 Season 4. I was recently eliminate from World Cup CONCACAF, Primera Division, and Escalating Classic.

Q: If you could change one thing about Conquer Club in general, what would it be?

A: I wish people would follow the forms/processes that are outlined in the various forums. There are so many posts, especially in Sugs/Bugs, that say things such as "Use the Form." It really gets annoying. Plus the people who post something like "You should have pushed Post Reply, not New Topic." Those people should send the author a PM so they can delete it.

Q: If there was something that the Conquer Club administrators could implement into the game to make tournaments easier to manage, what would it be? Similarly, is there anything you would like to see taken away from Conquer Club to make running tournaments easier?

A: I personally think that tournaments are not that hard to run as-is. I suppose I would like an additional tab that says Hosting Tournaments that would list each tournament that I'm running and the games within that tournament. As a player, I would like the Tournament/Game Title within the map battle screen. I don't think there's anything that needs to be taken away.

Q: How's your Mod Wars recruiting going? Did you convince many mods to play and was it hard work?

A: Honestly, Mod Wars has gone slower than I had expected. I figured that it would be filled within 10 days. And last week's newsletter didn't produce as many sign-ups as I expected. I've sent one round of recruitment PMs, but I'm going to need to send another. :?

Q: What other forum parts are you visiting regularly besides the tournament ones? Are you even visiting them regularly?

A: I will visit most every forum. I stay away from IK and Flame Wars. My most frequent posts are in G1 clan and Tournaments, but I read a lot in GD and Foundry.

Q: Why did you pick the name Night Strike?

A: It's my typical Halo profile, and I couldn't come up with anything better.

Q: If you had to choose a different screen name what would it be?

A: I might pick Blackout since that's my clan Transformer.

Q: What is it like being an Assistant Clan Leader to Optimus?

A: It's not usually that bad. My main job is to keep the clan active, and there are no problems with that.

Q: Which CCr's would you like to meet and hang out with??

A: I should probably meet Optimus Prime and Luxurious since I chat with them a lot. Also with my clan members. And of course the Admins.

Q: If only 10 players were allowed to have tournament privileges, who would you suggest they be?

A: Oh boy, should I even delve into this question?? :? I would allow Gozar, Sir Ricco, Forza AZ, flexmaster 33, amazzony, gilligan, Night Strike, jennifermarie, and MarVal. Oh, and I guess Optimus Prime if I must.

Q: Any tournaments planned for the future? What are they?

A: Amazing Race: Americas, Europe, Asia/Australia, and World. There will probably be a sequel to Mod Wars. There is a large multi-faceted tournament in the works.

Q: Thank you for your time.

A: No problem.
