Interview with brandoncfi
This week we had the chance to talk with organizer and player, brandoncfi. All questions are reader submitted, so if you have something you want to ask an upcoming organizer; PM me. Next week’s interview will be with mushin. If you have not submitted your questions, you have until Tuesday to either PM me, or post in this thread.
In two weeks, our interview will be with keiths31. Feel free to begin submitting your questions now, I have created this thread for that purpose.

Now, on with the interview.

Q: Hello, brandoncfi.

A: Hello, I am very excited about this interview I hope people can learn a little about me from this

Q: Why did you join CC?

A: I was playing attack on Facebook but I was getting kind of frustrated at the game-play so I started cruising the web in search of online risk. I landed at CounquerClub and haven't left since

Q:What made you want to start running tournaments?

A: I was having so much fun playing tourneys I felt like I needed to help grow the Tourney community by making some new tourneys.

Q: How long have you been organizing tournaments?

A: Since January 1,2008 aka 5 months

Q: Where did you come up with your tournament ideas?

A: In class I usually think of something and I write it down on my class notes, then when I want to start a tourney I have to dig through my notes to remember what it was

Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament ran, and first played in.

A:The Hole in One Golf tourney which is still going and in fact is only on the 2nd of four courses. This is my fault of course. The tourney was 60 players and scoring for each place finished. I was a bit bigger then I was a able to handle but i getting through it and plan to finish this tourney no matter how long it takes

The first Tourney that I played in was War in the Americas by Optimus Prime
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=36448
I did pretty good making it into the second or third round. I had a great time an I was hooked on Tourneys ever since

Q: What is your favorite tournament you’ve played in?

A: It would have to be Natewolfman's Foundry Update 1.0
this was finally my first tourney win

Q: Is there a specific type of format that you tend to gravitate towards? Why? Is there a format that is your favourite?

A: The more complicated the better

Q: Overall, are you playing a lot in tournaments? If not, then why and where do you find your games to play?

A: I usually am at 99% tourney games. Every once in a while I play a non tourney game...but what's the point.

Q: How excited where you with your first CC win?

A: Very excited it took me around 10-15 games to get my first (my brother just joined and he is at 45% with 100 games played so I'm a bit jealous)

Q: What is your most disappointing tournament loss to date?

A: I would say my loss in MAP BLASTER I i was in the lead for about 35 games but Hath and Sir Ricco took me to school and i finished third

Q: In your mind, what makes a successful tournament?

A: A good Theme
A great organizer
Little or no deadbeats

Q: What do you consider to be the most successful tournaments you've seen run?

A:I don't think I could answer this and be fair since I have been in so many great tourneys that have been run perfectly

Q: How do you attract players to your tournament, and what aspect (besides a reward of a premium prize or something like that) of a tournament do you think appeals to a lot of players and why?

A: The promise of a good challenging time as well as the honors of being a champ. In the case of Map Blaster I think people get real excited about playing 77+ games as once

Q: Is there anything in particular that you dislike about tournament organizing?

A: Deadbeats and the fact that I do not have enough time to run that tourneys the way I would like

Q: For you, what is the best part of being a tournament organizer?

A: I love to create Ideas and help people have a great time on CC it is also a great distraction from school

Q: What mistakes do you see tournament organizers make the most?

A: The mistake I have made are having to many players with to many games

Q: With experience comes the wisdom of knowing what mistakes you've made in the past so you can avoid them in the future. What mistakes have you made in your tournaments that you are sure to avoid in future tournaments?

A: First mistake was to make such a big tourney to begin with. I should have stuck with a simple bracket to begin with so I could have learned the ropes. Also have a substantial reserve list available for the tourney

Q: Do you use a "schedule" for updating your tournaments, or do you just wait until they need an update?

A: Really I should use a schedule but I don't. I update when I can but the wife gets mad if I spend to much time on CC

Q: If you could change one thing about Conquer Club in general, what would it be?

A: I would like to say that Lack and the CC crew have been doing a great job. I have seen many improvements over the last 6 months and I am amazed at how fast they do things here.

Q: If there was something that the Conquer Club administrators could implement into the game to make tournaments easier to manage, what would it be? Similarly, is there anything you would like to see taken away from Conquer Club to make running tournaments easier?

A: It would be nice to be able to place players directly into their games this would save a lot of hassle with dead beats. On the join tourney page a notice would let the players know that they will be automatically added to a tourney if they register for one. Maybe there could be a verification password at registration that they can use

Q: Is there anything that you would recommend to encourage new tournament organizers?

A: Start small 16 player and nothing to complicated. Then build on your experience

Q: List your top 5 biggest tournament headache's to this point

A:no shows are the biggest problem
Scoring
keeping track of all the games
find time to update

Q: Why did you pick the name brandoncfi?

A:Brandon is my first name and CFI stands for Certified Flight Instructor
I use this name for my email and any user names that I have

Q: If you had to choose a different screen name what would it be?

A:I'm not sure but most likely I would make I hybrid of both my kids names. Ava and Maika= Kava that would be cool

Q: Any tournaments planned for the future? What are they?

A: Conquer Risk
1st and 10
Map Blaster III: Purge of Evil
You got schooled

Q: Thank you for your time.

A: You are doing a great job with this Gozar thanks for helping the Tournament Community grow with this weekly Newsletter
