Ok. And it wasn't that I couldn't stand playing w/ him, and I'm not even saying he did or didn't deadbeat to avoid losing the points. I was merely saying that it was possible for someone to deadbeat in that situation and not get penalized, which sucks. But thanks for clearing that up.

Deadbeats in Terminator games

Postby Doxie55 on Sun Jun 24, 2007 9:06 pm

I play a lot of terminator games... but recently everyone in the game deadbeated except for me. I recieved the credit for the win, but I didnt get any points from any of the deadbeats. I think that once a player wins a terminator game... any deadbeats left on the map should lose points to the winner... esp. in a case like mine where i didnt have enough time to kill any single opponent before they all deadbeated. I think the points need to be restructured as far as deadbeats in terminator games.

I completely agree with that, I absolutely hate it when everyone deadbeats and you get the shaft. It is dumb.

Its not your fault everyone decided to quit AND if this was implemented maybe people wouldn't deadbeat as quickly AND other than this problem terminator games rock.

Maybe just don't end the game when all but 1 have deadbeated, but let the last player have another 3-5 turns, so he can eliminate the deadbeats armies and get their points.

@forza: why would you let them kill the deadbeats if no-one else is to kill them, if would give extra games on the site, and a higher data-traffic+ i dont like to be 15 minutes busy with clicking buttons in random sequence (in the end i will win anyway)

so, i like the proposal

What!Terminator game issue

Postby Misiek on Sat Jul 28, 2007 5:52 pm

Um two player in my game were kicked out for missing turns. Their armies remained in the game however. So i thought Id eliminate the only active player and then go after the dead ones. What the h**l though! The game was over and the two dead ones did not loose points?

Whats up with that now?

That's normal. Take out the deadbeats then the active guy if you want. Make sure the active one doesn't deadbeat as well though, because then you don't get any points.

The game ended because there was only one person left, you. If you had taken out the other 2 deadbeats then you would have received points from them since there would still be 2 active players. But you eliminated the only other active player so the game ended

That system doesnt make any sense. A player sees that he doesnt stand a chance so he deadbeat. That way he either loses points or doesnt. If the game worked the other way around he'd lose points no matter what.

Our number 1 player on this site (yosevuk) manipulates exactly this so he can play games without putting any points on the line, bit of a joke if you ask me......

Maybe that will change because two guys not losing points gives them an unfair advantage and about 30-40 points for me is lost. Seems like this should be fixed

Ditto

Postby Iainarm on Sat Jul 28, 2007 9:43 pm

The same thing happened to me and I was mad... I think we should change it so that the last player left alive gets points for all the deadbeats that weren't yet killed. That way it would be more fair, and more like all the other games...

No, quit whining.
If you do not like how terminator works, then play sequential, deadbeats lost their points in that game ;)

You came in November, and you've never played a terminator game till now?

Oh god.

I agree, it should be changed. The winner should get points for any deadbeats which are not already eliminated.

Its stupid otherwise.

No, it's not.
Terminator. What do you think that means? You have to terminate someone to get points. If they change it into the means of what you're saying, then that'll just be standard.
Play standard if you don't like Terminator.

I played terminator before...and i might be wrong but i remember that it was different because i eliminated the only active player and then took out the 1 deadbeat which why i was so suprised when the game ended right away today..

yea, terminate or get terminated...not deadbeat and get away with it.

I agree that the current system is unintuitive and open to abuse.

So far I've heard of these alternatives:

Deadbeat points should be given to the last remaining active player
The downside is that this isn't very terminator-ish.

Deadbeats should just lose points
The downside is that this breaks the model of "conservation of score" i.e. points gained equals points lost. But we already broke that model when we introduced "score penalties" as a punishment for cheaters. I am leaning towards this solution, the deadbeat would lose points as if it was eliminated by an imaginary neutral player with a score of 1000.

Please comment or share any other alternative you can think of :)

Option B

Postby Aerial Attack on Wed Aug 22, 2007 12:56 pm

I really like option B (deadbeat losing points to neutral). Of course, that opens up another option ...

Option B1 (deadbeat loses points to neutral - rated as newbie with 1000 points [severe penalties for high ranked deadbeaters])

Option B2 (deadbeat loses points to neutral - rated same as deadbeater [20 point loss nearly guaranteed])

I'd vote for B1 (that way point whore's suffer more for this tactic).

I like Aerial's B1 option, although getting their points as the last survivor would be nice also. Technically, if they deadbeat, it's considered a surrender and a de facto win for the survivor.

I think the former, because the latter will not stop the victor from cornering the last live opponent and keeping the game alive artificially. The last live opponent then may have to wait some time before being able to start a new game. Really wiping out deadbeats before the last player is just a formality, a chore, and just serves to inconvenience the last live player so I think that the points should be given to the victor

I think in either case the deadbeat should be neutralized immediately as with standard games.

I think a poll would be an excellent idea, can I propose option C, if it's programmable?

Option C: The deadbeat concedes points relative to losing to a 1000 rated player at the point he drops out - at the conclusion of the game those points are shared equally between all players who did not drop through deadbeating.

I don't think any player should receive any points from a terminator deadbeat...to me it goes against the whole idea of the game. I'd rather just see the deadbeater lose points, and have those points disappear from our whole pot-o-points. (Maybe this would help with inflation...lost points! ;))
