Every other older map is getting a facelift, some of them hideous but others quite nice, really very nice in fact. Why not the Classic map too? Someone says, "I have a problem with borders and colors and circles" and your response is to jigger the circles and give the names a new font, and then come to us and say, "Your complaints have been directly addressed, and now you have new ones?" as if no one could have foreseen this after the previous awkward attempt to plaster stuff on top of the old map. If a house is poorly designed, giving it a garish lick of paint around the window frames ain't going to make the wife happy when the rain drips in through the roof. All it will get her to do is shut up for a month or so. "See? You wanted a change, I gave you a change! And you're still complaining?"

The problems with the Classic map are that it is too small and cramped in on itself. Even World 2.1 with its myriad of tiny countries manages to feel more expansive than Classic does with just the standard number. Redesign the WHOLE MAP. Start a competition, get all the map makers involved, it'll be a riot, we'll vote on the proposals, everyone will have a grand old time.

Black 60... It's the Original version... There was nothing wrong with it to begin with (in my opinion). But, if there so exists a will of a significant number of club members to use a different version, then it should be so.

That being said, I also vehemently believe that the classic map (Black 60) should remain an option alongside whatever option is popularly chosen through this vote. An option to individually change the Classic Map to meet your own suiting would be an excellent amenity, but I'm almost positive that the feasibility of that option would come quickly into question.

Essentially, what I am asking for is to change the premise of this vote from "How to edit the Classic Map" to "Which companion 'Classic Map' would you like to accompany the original as an option?"

I realise that I may indeed be in the minority with my opinions, but I feel compelled to voice them.

Regards,

Snively

Black 60% is the best listed, but really. I want my old classic back. Without any changes. It looks so weird with them.

black 60% is the original! if you can't even recognize the map you love so much, how much do you really love it?!! i think the white 30% is much nicer than the white 60 they threw up in place of the old classic. anyway, i'm sure we will all live through this, right?-0

OK, so, to reply to some of the concerns posted already:

1) We are working on getting small maps with the most popular options and all 8 colours on them so that you can compare.

2) I'm going to see if it is possible to squeeze an extra 30 pixels into the width of the small map to spread it out a bit and, as Zawbanjito points out, make it feel a little less cramped

3) The technical coding to add multiple map images to each game would slow down the rest of our development process too much and delay some really cool things we have coming up and some back end stuff that needs to get done.

4) No, we can't have 2 different maps both running variants of the classic. There are lots of reasons for this, most of them are too long and/or just plain boring to explain here.

5) For those who just plain hate this, it seems that we have 2 camps - the "don't touch it, it was beautiful" and the "completely redesign it" camps. Obviously we can't please everyone, but we're going to try to please as many as possible while at the same time coming to grips with some of the problems that were inherent in the original map.

6) I love how many people have voted! (no, you cannot vote multiple times, no matter what you may think - it's just you changing your vote so don't get excited)

We're going to run this poll for 24-36 hours, after that, depending on what the results are looking like we may take it to a 2nd round or we may just call it. At this point, white 30% has more votes than all the black options combined and I seriously doubt we could get this kind of turnout for a 2nd round of voting.

Keep your eye on the foundry and we'll come up with a way to keep you more updated on things that are happening :)

Thanks for your feedback everyone, it's greatly appreciated

stop using this map in tournies (not going to happen i know, but those of us with visual impairments like mine are being discriminated against)

put a warning on the map eg "not suitable for some with less than perfect eyesight"*

*this may help stop the trend of new members leaving after just one game as they may wrongly assume this problem exists with all maps, i have no doubt it is currently a factor in attrition on this site.

This shit is your fault.

There are colour codes for a reason. But obviously, that's not enough for you, you want to ruin everything for everyone else and turn what made this place into the great place it was a couple days ago, into chaos and unhappiness.

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback Twill. Someone is listening! :)

However if possible in the next 24 hours change the current Classic map either with the old one or with the most popular option in the poll because as it is right now it's really a pain to play on!

Is the neutral white going to be included also? I think that may pose the biggest problem given white circles.

I personally think whoever voted No Shadows is crazy, at first galnce, it looks horrible, and doesn't get much better after, I have to say Black 60%, because it looks the best, and people won't play maps that do'nt look nice.

I did, but I still think it is the best option...

We've seen what happens when arbitrary number backgrounds are added and there is already a color codes option.

It's time to end the madness! Say no to army shadows!!!

I am curious as to how many times it has to be said that Black 60 was the original map before people stop calling for the "leave it as the original" poll. I did a brief count and see that its been stated at least 6 times thus far and probably more as I stopped looking and skimmed most of the pages.

who cares? if it is so loved, you should be able to recognize it, regardless. the white 30% option, which i also voted for, has more votes than all the black options combined. give up, your alleged majority is exactly that, ALLEGED. thank you all for pushing this to yet another vote, through the spamming of the forums, you have once again been proven wrong. the majority wanted a change, and that is why it was changed in the first place. the majority had verly little problem with the new map, and had to deal with the spamming of the forums. now, the majority has once again voted for the new map, and you all are declaring it unfair because few of you could tell which was the ORIGINAL MAP you all held so closely to your hearts!!! ridiculous. you are obviously NOT the majority. give it a rest, and let the rest of us enjoy the changes that we asked for and monitored in the map forum. thank you.-0

I say that everyone who voted for the ones that are obviously not going to get picked to just repick on the two ones that are most likely going to get picked (no shadows and 30% white shadows)...that way, ppl aren't picking other ones that will obviously not get picked (not saying that their opinion doesn't count...just saying that if one is beating the other by a landslide, we'll see what us Conquer Club members want)...that is just my opinion
personally, i think there should just be an option for what ppl want, cuz that would satisfy EVERYONES wants
i don't know how hard or easy it is to do that, Conquer Club staff, but it sure would make less controversial talk amongst everyone

p.s. I chose white 30%, but i could live with any of them

Putting everything other to one side for a moment. We are at the point where everyone gets a say on what is best... isn't that a good thing mate?

Personally I am happy with 30% White, which is very different to the 55.5% which we first had.
