I just want to make something clear - I personally commissioned the Classic touchup and it was not initiated by the Foundry. So please direct all criticisms about the decision to improve Classic on me and not the volunteers of the Foundry who provide us so many great maps to play on!

Here are the small versions with all army colours:

whining in all sorts of threads isn't helping. if you want something changed go to the classic thread in the foundry ;)

Fine! You asked for it...

WHEN WILL THIS BE AT AN END?????

I think it's all fine and good to take all the time in the world to be sure the next change doesn't create yet another debacle, but in the meantime why not simply PUT IT BACK the way it was?

88% of people have voted AGAINST the current version...
And yet, WE ARE BEING FORCED TO CONTINUE TO PLAY ON IT...

I looked thru page after page in this thread, but saw NO indication of when we will actually see some change... This is getting extremely frustrating for many people...

I have stopped starting or joining any classic games (1 exception due to lapse of memory)... and yet I am forced to play this awful version day after day until my current games end.

Let me say just a few more things before I get off my soapbox...

1) I appreciate the good intentions that created this change in the 1st place
2) I appreciate the efforts being made to improve the current situation
3) I appreciate that Lack is involved and committed to a change
4) But I AM REALLY PISSED OFF that it has been decided to leave this in its current botched condition for what has already felt like an eternity. MY PATIENCE IS AT AN END!!!!

Actually, 88% of people have voted against the shading of the army shadows that are on the current version. There are many other excellent minor changes that were made to the Classic map that are not in dispute.

As for being "forced" to play on it, those of us with color issues have been "forced" to play on the old classic map for the past two years. A week or two from now this will all be behind us and we can put our focus back on the game! :)

When the players with the "color" issues chose to start a game on the Classic Classic map (not the BLINDING Classic map), they made a FREE CHOICE....

When I and others had CURRENTLY ACTIVE GAMES changed to the BLINDING CLASSIC map, this was NOT A CHOICE...

The BLINDING CLASSIC map should have been made AN OPTION for new games...not IMPOSED ONTO CURRENT GAMES started under the Classic Classic map... DUHHHH :)

White 30 or 40%

The only real color we are worried about is Blue. Black shadows don't help see blue any easier than non shadows. Anything above 40% white is unnecessary.

Your first point seems picky.... but i agree the most immediate problem is the huge polka-dots.

To your second point! now it is becoming clear that the colour-blind mafia are exacting retribution upon the rest of us due to their difficulties in watching snooker on the TV! ... now we are getting to the bottom of this issue!

So... you're saying that people who were born colorblind should have to make a choice if they want to play a map they've played their entire Risk experience, prior to CC? That they should play at their own risk? What if... just maybe... some colorblind people like playing Classic, and like playing CC too? What're they supposed to do? Lack is just trying to make it easier for a fraction (and a significant fraction: Wiki Article) of the population to play on the site.
And honestly, is the map reallly THAT bad? I voted to tone it down a bit, but I can live with it for the time being.

I can't read the blue armies on Europe without White 50 or 60. I loved the change to white 60, it makes the map playable for me.

Lucky for you.

I am in a game right now with green/blue on siam, and the same in aus, I cannot tell the difference, unless I use the colour codes.

Seriously, I lost a game this week as I fortied to the wrong terry thinking I was pushing to a team mate (who's turn followed mine so could break a bonus) but found out I had fortied to myself...this was a dorect result of the new white spots.

lack says all comments should be directed at him as he commissioned this....well it is a shame you did not make a full announcement BEFORE this complete cock up occured lack, but then I have previously seen you just go ahead because you thought something was a good idea, before asking your paying public whether they thought it was a good idea, so this latest complete nonsense does not really surprise me.

Nah, i don't think he's saying that and nor is Robinette.. it reminds me of Edmund Burkes analysis of the French compared to the American Revolution.
To cut a long, boring story short ;) it is all about prescription; in a sense, the maintenance of status quo and evolution being the correct path to a succesful society.
Burke held that the French were wrong to revolt, as they sought to tear up and disrupt the traditional structure, where no alteration in balance between ruler and subject had been made.
But that the American colonies were justified; not least due to King George III imposition of new taxes upon the colonies, where there had been none before. In so doing the King had changed the fundamental relationship between Sovereign and Subject.

So, what they are saying is that the burden of justice should rest upon the changer; the 'injustice' was committed against those in favour of the status quo.

Yeah, I know that's not really the point... trust me, I took the time to read all of these threads :P
I just don't think that colorblindness should be compared to the issue in the way it was.
And for the rest of the debate... I'll leave that to you guys :D

You seem to be unable to get the point :)

Make all the NEW blinding crazy maps you want...but don't CHANGE a map I already picked to launch a game.... DUHHH
:)

ADD a NEW map....and KEEP the OLD MAP...isn't it simple???

maybe have a choice for people to choose for the old or the new(or a couple of them) to be displayed, that way if some has a reason to prefer one map or just likes the way it looks they can pick what they want

Otherwise you'll always have someone complaining

This discussion is ridiculous: it is about the colour of a circle behind a number for crying out loud...

CC is about playing and having fun. If the adaptations make the map better, go for it. And if people are so fond of the old map: take a screen shot and save it on your computer... CC is not a museum...

Btw, if the old map used to be a picture of a cow's ass, people would still be romantic about it. So the 'deep feelings of love' for the old map are not due to the old map, but due to the person loving it!

And I guess that if the circles would slowly have been changed to a lighter colour, nobody would have noticed it... 8-) Asking afterwards to change it back to black might have raised the same reactions :D

It's not about colors....it's about changing a map instead of adding a new map and letting people choose freely :)
