This brings me back memories from the time that qwert retired from the map foundry too. The 2 cartographers that I admire the most are now out, this is not a minnor event.

Farewell carinswk.

Thank you for your thoughts there griff, but...

I guess if anyone wants to do more than nothing that is their business, I just don't see the point of it.

Coleman is quite correct.
I have been recompensed for the maps, and there is no other honours required for me.

Coleman has no idea what he's on about, imo. I think the compensation for the maps really isn't all that great. I, like I presume many others, do it for the fun of it and cause we like this site. But having fun an exercising the creative muscle is reward in itself, sometimes. On the brightside... you've got 25 years or so of free premium, a prize valued at $500.

If this decision is truly final, you'll be missed. Waterloo is my favourite map on the site by far.

Well Cairns, it's brilliant that you've brought so many brilliant (and definitely the best [waterloo]) maps to CC.
Good luck fella, hope you'll pop back back - your work is very much appreciated by people that love playing the game.

just cheers

What I find stupid is how the mods and admin don't do anything to try to fix the problem. They just say "So sorry to see you go" and move on, not really caring about the people who brought them great maps. CC needs to fix this by getting rid of mibi before mibi pisses off other cartographers making them leave.

Yawn, colton.

Mibi has as much right to be on this forum as anyone else. Also if he breaks the rules, mods will punish him accordingly, just as any other CC member.

Nobody forces anyone to read the posts of a user or group of users if they really bother you. There's always the foe -button.

I know it's fun to play the "let's blame the mods" game, but really there's only so much mods can do. Mods cannot help the choices individual people make. If a mapmaker wants to stop making maps for whatever reason, it's his decision, and mods can do just as much as any other member: wish him well and hope that he comes back some day.

Not to blame anybody, but seemingly Mibi has rubbed the wrong shoulders with lots of people on this site. 50% of the battle is not what you say, it is how you say it.

Christ colton, you had to play the "modz suckzorz!1@!" card. Did you even bother to read this thread? mibi apologized and explained the misunderstanding, though it would seem as if cairns's unfortunate departure is more a culmination of events. I'm pretty damn sure just a misunderstanding that has been clarified wouldn't be the only explanation to force the most prolific mapper on the site to pack his bags. Just shut it already.

Little feeble people will always strike and lash out at those they envy. Geniuses will always be so different and will usually throw a tantrum and jsut walk away rather than deal with the little ppl.

That is my experience in life time after time after time after time, its no different here and the result will be the same. A guy that we love the work leaves (and he should, lot of talent could be making money somewhere) and the little ppl stay behind.

can we have a competition in which the top cartographers take on each of cairns' maps? I am willing to buy 10 years of premium to the person who finishes Trafalgar.

Cairns, it saddens me to see you go. I don't love every map you've done but there are plenty that I do. I could gush right now over your accomplishments but I won't. Rather, I will wish you luck in the future in whatever you do.

When I got sick and was busy blaming everyone else for my problems (although I had the good sense to the blaming part privately at the time) the mods let me go without a fuss. I am very grateful to them for that. If the mods had tried to strong-arm me into staying, or if I ran around blaming a bunch of people or parts of the site for my leaving and they went all wrath of god on those portions of the site and various people to make me stay, in the end I would resent them for it and feel responsible ect. I am not cairnsWK so I can't know for certain, but I doubt he wants that.

If cairnsWK did want any mod to take action against mibi, for any reason, he would have PMed one and appropriate actions would have been taken. He may have done that, I can not know. As it is I know mibi and cairnsWK have likely been sparing for quite some time and cairnsWK probably has many reasons, both known and unknown, for doing what he does and may have just wanted to take one last shot at mibi before leaves, but again, I am not cairnsWK so I can not know for certain. It is not really my business to know.

Anyway, if either party wants to involve the site and its staff into this conflict they would have done so. I do not find it right that any third party, that is not directly involved, should tell the site, cairnsWK, and/or mibi what they should do.

I find that uproariously tempting, but cairnsWK owns the rights to everything he has done up until this point and has not relinquished them for others to finish, and as such I can not oblige. If he wanted to be really vengeful he could force lackattack to remove all the maps he has made up to this point from the site and lack would probably have to so lets just be happy he hasn't gone down that route.
