If so then maybe there should be a poll!! I would hate to see maps go because there not the Public favorite..... maybe some can go, but I like Circus Maximus.... among many others

i dont think any maps will get deleted any time soon, allthough perhaps they should if they fall below .5% of active games or something

I disagree, if anyone enjoys playing a map I don't see why it can't stay on the site.

But dont think any maps should be pulled off the site. More options there are the better.
But can you imagine these 3 maps with a re vamp, espically British Isles!

I cannot understand why you people are inventing stuff or even discussing the removal of some maps...I am sure none of the mods ever mentioned maps getting removed. Aren't you ever happy? :p

Well I agree that we are getting to a point where too many maps are visible at once when you start the create a game or the game finder. Really all but the top 5 or 10 maps should be hidden by a more maps button of some type pretty soon. Removing some outright isn't a good idea though, that is what the revamp projects are all about. Which I would really like to see more of in the near future. Canada needs one really bad and the middle east one should really be passed by now.
mibi wrote:I think maps with less than 1% of gameplay should be hidden in the game finder, and only accessible if you click on an 'other maps' link. This would keep the fire stoked so to speak. there is such a thing as too many maps. first time players like the game finder and see a mess of maps with varying quality, they dont know which are good and that no one plays circus maximums for a reason.
its like when someone starts a forum, and then they iprematurely split it into 15 different subforums, and the whole thing fizzles. gotta keep the furnace fiery.

and i will go record and say that montreal is the most in need of a revamp, or maybe total destruction. canada needs a revamp, as well as indochina and hong kong.

PS: damn i'm brilliant

For example, you have links for Geography, Fantasy and Abstract or something similar. You click on a link and the maps for that category become visible under that link/heading. This way you could still view all the maps in Game Finder if need be.
Onto revamps, things are still getting sorted out. It's taking a little longer than I had hoped it would, but progress is being made, even if it is slowly.![]()
I haven't gone through all the maps to determine what needs revamping, because I think it will be best to only have a few revamps being done at a time. I've seen a few maps mentioned that I really don't feel need revamping (Ireland, British Isles, Hong Kong, etc) but this is an issue that can be discussed once the announcement has been made. In my opinion, the point of revamping a map is to bring it up to current foundry standards, not just for the sake of making old maps prettier than what they currently are.

I disagree. As a business CC should put it's best face forward. The worst maps on CC should be better than the best maps anywhere else. This is not the case, and as a result, maps like Montreal and some others lend their amateur credibility to CC as a whole. Now I don't think maps should be deleted, but the best and most popular ones should be highlighted. This can easily be done by hiding maps with less than 1% popularity. These maps can still be accessible but with some extra effort. If this were some sort of egalitarian democracy then every map should be given an equal piece of the spot light... but its not, its a business, and a business would be fool hardy to push their top their least performing product with the same vigor as their best performer.
Categories may be useful at some point, but would be incredibly lopsided with most maps being geography in nature, and then there is the problem of which is the best category, is KotM abstract?.. is Seige! fantasy? Is USApocalypse geography? I think the category route with create more problems than it will solve. Even if you did have maps in categories you would still be giving equal time to World 2.0 as you are to the current Middle East, when what you want to do is channel players to play more World 2.0 than the Middle East because they will have a better experience.
Lack and andy need to think about growing CC vertically and not just horizontally. Perhaps they are a bit too comfortable on their current Alexa laurels.

come on mibi you're taking things a little too serious, i agree it is a business but it is also a FUN place.
why hide a map? on what motives? because it is ugly? is looks all that matters? for example brazil has wonderfull gameplay but hideous graphics. should it be hidden because it is a shame for CC?
no way. KOTM has gorgeous graphics but imho it doesn't have half of the gameplay Brazil has. why should KOTM be put up front and Brazil hidden somewhere?
absolutely not. this is a very bad thing to do.
if we continue your line of thought not only should we hide the ugly maps be we should also have pop-ups that say "Play Siege cause it's good looking don't play that crappy Montreal map. Be cool don't be a nerd"
if we really need a way to sort maps, then grades should be enough to see which map is good and which isn't.
also we could have several rating possibilities like graphics, gameplay innovation, replayability, etc.

I never said hide ugly maps, I said hide maps with less than 1% popularity, because something is wrong with these maps that less than 1% of the community wants to play on them. Graphics, game play, innovation, replayability are all already factored into the popularity rankings so there is no need to 'rate' them. People already 'rate' them by playing.
I agree that it is about FUN. Yet we have maps that are very unfun, according 99% of the people who don't play them. But these unfun maps are given the same exposure as the very fun maps like World 2.0 or Middle Earth. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, and im sure there are some people that LOVE crossword, which is why it shouldn't be deleted, but its rather counter intuitive to assume its as popular as World 2.0 which is what we are doing now.
Also, please don't use straw man arguments.
