Can Pets and Men's basic attack each other. Based on proximity I'd guess so but in every other situation where you have different continents attacking there is a clear path. Maybe shifting Sporting and Pets to the left a little and drawing the path between Mens and Pets instead of between Seasonal and Sporting would be clearer.

Actually as I look there is a similar concern with Mens and Restaurant. which I assume connect due to proximity

I'm also wondering if there should be paths from the Fun and Games cont across that path to bath shop and/or furniture. It wouldn't affect the bonuses on either House or Necessities since you'd still have 3 choke points but would add some movement to the map rather than making a player always go around the edges to get to Fun and Games. It would probably bump Fun and Games up to a +2 though.

I would probably move a few things if i were doing it too although that's a personal preference I think but I'll throw them out there in case you want to look at it. For instance, in most of these stores, I find that the restaurant area is right beside the front door so I'd probably move it down to the lower right hand corner. I'd probably then slide Infants over into the growing up section where Restaurants are, turn the lingerie to run horizontally instead of vertically moving beauty and jewelry over. This makes room for the checkouts to slide slightly left (since we put the restaurant down in the corner). The other thing that also always seems to be in these stores is an EyeCare center which you could slot in right next to customer service by the side entrance area.

Anyone have any thoughts for the Map Name "Conquer Mart" for the top right corner? thoughts on what it should look like ? right now it looks like "crap".

Fun and Games - I was considering it an easy way to secure a smaller bonus rather then connecting it and making it a larger bonus and harder to defend.

I agree with most of the posters above - the graphics still aren't working. I don't understand what the blue lines are supposed to be and the background images just seem messy.

Several drafts ago you said you were going to work on replacing the blue lines with shopping carts? Is this still on your To-Do list? You should at least give it a try - I think it would be a huge improvement.

About your "aerial view" dilemma - go to a Target or Walmart or something and walk around for a bit for some inspiration. You could easily make these territories look like aisles and "decorate" them with "store displays".

For example - Lingerie: Instead of a creepy close-up of some young girl's breast, find a clip art image like this: Image

There is a TON of free clip art you could use if you are unable to draw them yourself. Cash Registers for "Checkout", a TV screen for "Home Electronics", a chair for "Furniture". Not every territory needs one, but if you used the "aisle" view and added a few iconic images to give the appearance of a store display, it would be a massive improvement.

Also - I like that you added a background to the overall map, but why does the floor of your store look like dirt or clay?

Shouldn't it have a tile pattern? Or at the very least a Coscto concrete look?

I second Lost at Limbo. Not every square needs a picture, but those that have them should be clear (clip-art) and *ahem* not creepy.

shopping carts look too tacky, take out the black border ot them and the white so its just the wire frame

The map appears to have a small amount of support, and I still have some concerns...

Attack routes need to be crystal clear. The shopping trolleys only seem to add a bit of confusion at the moment - I have no idea what they're for... If they're representing attack routes, then you need to explain that, if it's some bonus, that too needs to be explained.

The general graphics have lifted a little - removing the flat white background has helped no end, but I still think the map is a bit lacklustre, and is missing a certain "je nais c'est quoi"... At the moment it feels a bit vague. The background images are nice, but feel a bit too cut-and-paste... Would clipart style graphics work? I'm not sure.... What I do know, is that the graphics need to feel like they compliment the map, and an essential part of it, rather than an afterthought.

I said previously that I think the graphics need to step up a gear, and I still think that is the case. Yes they have improved, but with every map that makes it through the foundry, the bar gets raised. I have no doubt that you have the ability to develop a map though the process, but am not currently convinced this is the map that will do it for you. If you do choose to go ahead with this project, then a quality update with more thought put into the gameplay should see you move into the main foundry. I have my concerns that it might not make it through the other side, but will gladly be proved wrong ;-)

Hi,

This is an interesting map idea. I would suggest adding some impassable borders to increase strategy.

I also have some objection with food being between cosmetics and maternity. In reality over half of a warehouse type store would be food. If you don't want more food areas, then it should probably be completely removed.

Finally, "Ladies' Maternity" is redundant. It should be shortened to simply "Maternity."

In the next version, I have eliminated "Food" and corrected "Maternity".

I will consider the one way impassibles.

i like the 3d idea but it seems like it would get sketchy towards teh back of the building. make a demo sketch version lzr, then we can criticize u lol

I like the idea of using pictures of objects as background for the territories. Well done on that.

Other than that, I am not much impressed with graphics nor gameplay.

Version 16: February 16/2009
- Cleaned up the Clutter of Background Images, and re-worked the graphics. (Pending Completion)
- Split up Ladies from 4 to 6 Territories
- Condensed Appliances to 5 Territories from 6
- Condensed Furniture to 5 Territories from 6
- Moved Infants from Purple to Red and Grouped it with Girls and Boys
- Re-worked the Beauty Department
- Added Register 1, 2 and 3 = Secure all three and get a Bonus of +2
- Took out the Toy Territory, and Made it all Electronics and Split 2 into 4.
- Split up 3 into 5 in the top Left area
- Added a workable logo to the top right.
- Increased Department Bonus based on the following formula.
(Territories + # Attack Points + # Registers Bordering Department) Divide 3 = Answer + (# Territories to Hold Bonus/2)
- Changed the font to make it look cleaner.
- Raised the Map w/ a Drop Shadow

You should make the "Departmental Attack Route" into "Inter-Departmental Attack Route." I don't really like the carts, especially by customer service. Those stacked ones look quite frankly horrible. Fitting Rooms sounds better too, unless it really is one room. This map is very flat … I'm interested to see how drop shadow or an outer glow of black would look?

It is kind of bland, I would add images like the soap dispenser. I also hate the carts. With the little colored squares in the legend rearrange the whole thing so it is easier to tell what color with what name is what bonus. Make register 2 harder to hold. The multi-colored border for the whole map is ugly. Love the conquer mart symbol!
Great map but I am worried about it's future...

this is a huge improvement!
what i do recommend is that on top of what has been said before, make the legend clearer, at first glance its hard to tell which color is to which names is to which bonus.

  • remove the random soap dispenser
  • fix the cart paths, make it so not all the carts are facing the same direction
  • and ur bonus list is messed up, make all the names, and bonus amount next to the color. its really confusing right now
