I don't understand all this about the bevel. It isn't supposed to look like it's sinking -- the direction is up, it's an inner bevel.
Do you mean as it borders the unplayable area? Because that's another few layers that are also bevelled.

I guess I can play around with the stuff.

And the bevel on the names is definitely coming off.

I've made a lot of progress the last couple of days -- a major update should be coming up soon.

You are right, there is an inner bevel going up, but its not on India, its on the non-playable area. Since India is the main focus of the map, it looks kind of strange.

The gradient stroke around the text makes it hard to read
I dont like the new bevel. I think you should have the playable map and the brown on top one the same level, above the water.
The whole border of India is a little pixely

Thats all for now. Its looking pretty good =D>

Well something about the stroke around the text looks weird. Its hard to read.

Is it the shadow maybe? The rainbow colors? I thought I'd finally gotten the legend right...

Not the legend, the text on the map.

Oh. Well, it seems like no matter what I do, I get complaints about the text.

With black text and no effects, complaints about how it gets lost in the borders.
With white text, it's better but still not good enough.
With a bevel, at first it seems like it's good. But then people start saying they think it's ugly and makes it hard to read.
With no bevel and a stroke instead, now I get this. I'm running out of ideas, here...

PS. I know I sound a little bitchy, but I'm not angry at anyone -- this is just a little frustrating...

The new bevek is definetly heading in the right direction but like klap said the entire outer boarder looks pixelated and untidy.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

Are you territ borders real or have you improvised? If you can, I would move some of them a bit. Right now, there are areas that are confusing - like the green region "eastern" - I have a hard time figuring out where some of the army circles / namers are. Ahh. As I was typing this I noticed that West and Bengal are one territory "West Bengal". With a river passing through it? No way man - that's not going to work. Way too confusing.

Your borders look cool. A nice rich black with a bit of shadow on them. Good job there. And I like the colors & non-playable map areas. The slight textures look good. And I've gotten use to your glass sphere army circles. I kind of like them now!

You need to work on your map text. Like it's been said, some letters are jagged looking and hard to read. The legend text looks good - but since you have that, do you really need the mini-map? Kind of redundant.

But overall - your map is coming along nicely. Good work.

Having a legend and a minimap seems redundant, no?

Thanks for the comments guys.

I think it was edbeard that suggested a mini-map despite the redundancy, I forget why... I think it may have been because I have the space for it, simple as that.

As for the text, I think just enlarging it a little will be fine.

West Bengal is definitely a problem. I think I may have to give up and just completely wipe out the river parts that aren't impassables. I hate it, but ah well. The Ganges isn't even on its true course, I had to take some liberty with it...

Oh, and to answer your question RJ, the borders are as accurate as my tracing is. Which, on a computer, isn't too shabby.

I personally think it adds a little life to the map. Rather than having a rather large blank spot in that areas :)

I'm just wondering if the space could be better filled with something else. Perhaps a quote on India? Or a picture? I suppose it's of minor consequence in the end, but I dislike redundancy.

I don't think that's a bad idea. Right now the rivers are effecting readability and regions, so if you nuke the rivers entirely for a while and get everything else settled you can drop the rivers in later. ??

the map looks as if its plastic, maybe you could lower the ocpacity on the white blend on the bevel blending options page?

I object to Bangladesh and Bhutan being part of "Eastern India" -- they are entirely different countries and it is very disrespectful to include them under such classification. Solutions:

1. Dont include those territories
2. Have single bonuses for those counties
3. Rename the continent to something like "Eastern zone"

Also I agree that the map looks a bit plastic.

I like the third option the best; the first two I hate.

Do you have any other ideas for that continent? I've been wanting to rename it but I can't find anything suitable.

OK, I know this map has been inactive for a while. I have a lot of stuff going on, and I don't see myself getting back to this until August.

So, until then, this is officially on vacation.
