Game where it's True Every Person for Themself (NO Truces)

Postby Kostanzhoglo on Tue Apr 15, 2025 12:44 pm

Do people have interest in playing in games where it's True "Every Person for Themself"?
Where openly discussed Truces are not allowed?

Any player can of course look at the board, look at who is strongest, and decide to actively Not attack a weaker player, but the idea here is that It Is NEVER Talked About Openly.
You want to be a good neighbor? Great, put some troops on your border, and then don't attack your neighbor, and see what happens with your neighbor. Hopefully they won't attack you, because they'll realize there's a bigger threat somewhere else on the board.

Just wondering if anyone else in interested in these kinds of games.

Usually I'm in a game, and just when it's getting interesting, two players offer a truce to one another, and the entire balance of the game is thrown off. The game becomes about how to handle the truce, instead of being about handling RISK (where no strategic words / agreements are spoken between players).

Anyone interested in a game like this?

I do prefer when games play out like that naturally, where the chat is basically empty. Usually when the players all at least recognize each other's names, and there's not one dude in there that's constantly trying to manipulate the game. You know the type, he says "GG red" in the 3rd round, says, "great yellow you just gave the game to green" in round 7, and is constantly just trying to direct traffic. Often this type of player actually does end up winning because it does work in a way. It's for this reason I play 95% 1v1 or team games. Probably the good thing about the in game chat truce is it cuts down on people being paranoid that there *Is* chat going on behind the scenes and truces made in secret. Still I pretty much don't use it. Mostly cause it usually comes with a 1 or 2 round warning to break the truce. That's not exactly how ceasefires work in wartime...

Thanks for the response Ltrain. Yes, agree with you on all the points you mentioned. (...Except for the 1v1 games. It always seems the person who gets to go first has a serious advantage. Never been able to make sense of that.)

I just enjoy the idea of playing a game and trying to maximize the 'risk' element, where things don't need to be discussed, manipulated, finessed by talking about it.
I like playing fog games most of all, and paying attention to the Overview tab to see who has the most territories, and reading the logs, to try and figure out what just happened and where. Truce agreements remove risk from the game for whoever agrees to them.
