I can't believe I'm the first one to bother my ass coming here. There's a lot of people complaining who have no right to. At least I drop in every once in a while.

Anyway, I'm going to try and sum up opinion on this:

Good:
colour changes to continents

Bad:
White arrmy circles - they just seem to stand out far too much
Size of army circles - I'm not sure if they're any bigger or not but they seem to take up too much space (could be just the whiteness again)
Position of army circles - I realise that you have been trying to make the map easier to read but the circles seem to be hanging off the edges of terits all over the place. It just seems to unorganised. I think we'd rather have them in the middle of the teritories even if the names are a bit covered up.

Hope you get the jist of it - people hate the army circles! I think you've all got to take a step backwards and look at it again - this solution was not the right one

Sorry, I should have posted earlier during the touch up process but those army circles are making it double hard for me to read the map. The fact that I am colour blind seems to make it even more of a problem for me than other users.

Ill post what I posted in announcements here...

if its not broke dont fix it, i hope to return to old background.
Gotta agree with this, the majority of the players on this site had no complaints about this map, so why change it? Because a few people have to use telescopes to see their computer screen shouldnt be a reason why we should change the entire outlook of the map.

The circles are the overwhelming problem, but the entire map really took the nosedive. For the "not being able to see the colors" situation, isnt that why we added the color code option to the map? Just doesnt make sense... :(
Im sorry for all your pains, but this thread was here long enought to comment on. The fact that your coming afterwards is your own fault.

However I agree on the circles. I think the problem is we tested them with 88 cordinated which have the most coverage covering most of the white. I think we should of tested the white with 1 coordinate digits with the least coverage.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

my god, the army circles are too much. I wish I'd seen this thread before it was too late.

It seems to me that mapmakers like army circles, but players don't. Personally, I find them obstructive an unnecessary. Unless you have a really messy background, there's really no point to covering up the map. I like just having my tokens on the gameboard, instead of placing them on a pedestal sticking out of the game board. Having the black outlines around the colored numbers seems to make the numbers visible in the vast majority of situations.

I'm sorry, but the classic map looks ugly now. I wish I'd seen this thread before it was too late.

believe me. mapmakers hate army circles more than players. unfortunately, they are somewhat necessary for readability issues on many maps.

im indifferent to the map, i like the old, i like the new, im fine either way, but the fact that they didnt post here while they could i say too bad for them...

This is the perfect reference for this situation. I admire your quick memory, jiminski. Yeah, it was on display... in the least well-known forum on the site. Notice how mapmakers often feel a lack of interest? It's not because people come through here, read everything, and decide not to comment.

that post is a real sign of your arrogance!Maybe you have great reason to feel superior as you do great work here but your work usually only improves our enjoyment or we can avoid it by not playing the new maps.. this is different, some people play Classic exclusively and you have ruined it, leaving us with no option to avoid the changes.
You are our experts and specialists and the majority of us just let you get on with businesses and don't bother you, as for the most part we could add very little of any help.. you have abused our trust!

Map makers aren't "experts" or "specialists." Yes, it takes some graphical skills and an imagination to make a good map, but there are no requirements at all for posting in a map thread. If you think something looks ugly, don't just complain after the fact! Become a part of the foundry process and critique other maps, even if you can't make maps of your own. You can't acknowledge that the foundry exists, actively choose not to participate in it, and then complain that you don't enjoy some of the maps being made. And no one will enjoy every single map made, I myself can't stand a number of them. Being newer to the foundry, many of the maps I dislike have already been quenched, so there's relatively little I can do, since many people enjoy these maps. So I deal with it and play maps that I do like.

Do I like this classic touch-up? Yes and no. I like the lighter circles, though personally I voted for 55% opacity. But if the majority of people dislike it, then the majority of people need to come here and say that before the map is published. It's not like it's incredibly hard to find, or something that is hidden away. I came upon the Foundry after about two weeks of playing and I've been lurking attentively ever since.

But now I'm just rambling, so I'll stop. Basically, if you chose to ignore the fact that there was a touch-up going on, there's a limit to how seriously people can take your comments on the map. If you want to be taken seriously at all, tone down your accusatory attitude and recognize that some of the problems with this touch-up come from a lack of feedback from the general population. Don't go around shouting about how much you hate this map and how god-aweful it is, say you don't like it. It is possible to express disapproval without being insulting.

And now I just sound preachy and rambling, so I'll stop.

yeah, that shows us for purposely ignoring something that we didn't know existed! How could we have been so dumb as to not check every topic in every subforum? I mean, c'mon! This thing was in plain view, in one of the most commonly visited places on the website!

I frequent the map foundry quite abit. I think revamp's at handled very badly there! The Canada map springs to mind. Since it was revamped i never played this map again!! Are more people playing on this map becuase of the revamp. NO they arent!!!

Are more people going to play on the classic map because of the revamp.hmmmm....

Anyways, alot of players dont visit the foundry to comment on maps. They see the maps they can play and they just play them!! But when you make such a change on the most played map in CC, WTF!!!!! Sort it out please!

The obvious solution would have been to post some sort of announcement in General Discussion when this started, so that people would know about this, and follow it's progress. People don't usually bother to watch the progress of new maps, which is why they don't check this forum. But if you're going to change a map people are already familiar with, they'll want to know and have a say, and you can't expect them to notice it here.
