Thank you for making what I said two posts earlier so much more noticeable.

I was thinking more just changing the minimum, though, not all the numbers, so maybe

...
<bonus quantity="1">-1</bonus>
<bonus quantity="9">0</bonus>
...

That'll get it up to three for 9 territories and keep it at four for 12. Of course, if you have twelve chances are you also have at least a continent and should win easily, and if you have 15 you've pretty much already won.

If the artist is seven , I think Russia should be Rusha or something like that. Also, we all know Russia is cold so I think you should move the sun over near the west coast. Maybe replace it with a narwhal or ice cubes or something.

Over all, I think it's a cute idea. I totally like it.

That's a good idea (: maybe we can move the sun to Greenland area, since it's the 'Land of the Midnight Sun', though a 7 year-old probably wouldn't know that. But I always thought Russia was cold when i was young. The impression I got of it was always those furry caps XD

Works for me spot on idea...

This will also make it less of a "if you start well you win" map as so many people were saying at the beginning!!

Europe. no! - why? It's the same as the continent
Europe Jr. no! - Why? Jr is an American term how many people in Europe do you see walking round calling themselves Steve and Steve Junior.
European Onion - Maybe. Why? A child may not fully understand the European union but may of heard of it
Old Gramps Land - No! Why? It is ridiculous imagine someone calling a place old gramps land

I put the sun there because Japan is the land of the rising sun. And if I'm not going to include the island, I might as well have the sun there.

Also if I move the sun to Greenland I'd have to put the penguins near Japan and that's not quite right.

I suppose if it is American that alone is enough reason to change it. You've got me convinced.

(Of course, "junior" originated in Europe, but then that was a while ago...)

So, max, if you're so gr8, do you have any good ideas for a name?

Um, a seven year old wouldn't care if it was European or not unless they were European. I think it should stay.

Like someone pointed out aeons ago, no one complained about Oakland in the San Francisco map.

After great deliberation, I think Europe is the best name. Sounds like the kid is confused about what is and isn't Europe.

Then again, the majority voted for getting on with it, so maybe we're paying much attention to something that's not so important.

Edit: East Indias is still there? Come on! What 7-year-old knows that?

Just put it back to "Europe" it works much better...

It's fucking obvious that Europe the continent isn't Europe the country.

Besides the territory name figuring out, where does this map stand? What else is being worked on, if anything?

Considering changing the minimum bonus to two -- that'd require the new XML features.

Need to do a small version and place the numbers.

Ok, we all know where I stand on this map but I think it's time I weigh in with some constructive critism anyway. :)

First thing I would like to mention is the names. I get the map is trying to be cute and a little humorous, but I think some of the names go beyond this and are verging on ridiculous. How stupid is this 7 year old? I mean, if they can draw a map of the world, they should be able to identify the countries and continents they've drawn a little better. Names I have a particular problem with are Europe Jr, Irakistan, More Russia, Conga and the spelling correction in Australia. I think the following would be more appropriate for a 7 year old, if not so funny to some of you:

Europe Jr = France, Spain or an actual country
Irakistan = Middle East
More Russia = maybe have East and West in there, I'm not sure
Conga = South Africa
Australia = just have the correct spelling

I realise the ideas might not be as funny or whatever to some of you, but once the idea of these wear of the idea is kind of lame in my opinion. 7 year olds aren't that dense so it all seems a little over the top.

The Canada/USA border seems over the top as well. It can be easily fixed to reflect real country borders. I'm not sure why there are so many gaps around the Europe Jr/Germany/Arabia area and as such you've had to add in another sea type connection. I'd suggest extending Arabia up to fill in the gaps and remove that connection. I also think having a world map without China is like having a meat pie without sauce (Australian thing ). Perhaps it can be worked in around the Russia/More Russia thing.

The compass is another example of this over the top approach. A 7 year old should have no trouble identifying North, East, South and West. Plus the S is around backwards, the only S on the map to do so.

Those are my major concerns for now, I'll let you respond to those before I get carried away with my novel.

just a though:

we all talk like: a kid of 7 could never have done this, or a kid of 7 would likely making this mistake.

can't we send wit to some elementary school and just let 5 children of 7 years old make a world map?

er maybe show them your map without names, and let them fill it in. it will be hilarious. full of crazy result, that are i think far better, then names as europe jr...

KEYOGI:
I realize this kid must be tremendously dense, but without all the mistakes the map loses much of its childish theme.

As for the US/Canada border, that's a gameplay issue; I want two vertically-separated territories there and this is just what they're called.

The S in the compass is not around backwards, though I do agree that it is quite ugly.

Spritzking:
I would follow your idea if I had ready access to 7-year-olds... which I just might soon but I doubt I can manage it.

KEYOGI... you are no fun at ALL. :(

I find Russia and More Russia to be the most charming feature in the map, I confused Austria and Australia until I was 10, and I doubt Middle East and South Africa are countries/territories an American 7-year-old would know about. I even think East Indies should be changed - to either China, Japan, or Opposite (depending on how much wackiness can be added to the map before it becomes too silly).

In short, if it was completely proved that a 7-year old could name most areas in that map correctly, I'd suggest that the map continued as it was and was changed to a 5-year-old's version of the planet.

But, I also thinking we're all nitpicking in here. *points to the pool* We shouldn't be lingering on toddler semantics when most people think the map is cool.

Evil DIMwit, mind posting the latest map once again?

And in regards to the names, I think most sound pretty good. I think you are finding the balance between too many and not enough.
