I just wanted to say, the image on page 7...that has only the single brown bridge, looks better than the current image you are using. It might be the color, or the fading, paleness, etc.

The curved ones? Those are grey, that's why no one understands you. :)

Comparing it to the gray on the map, it looks like faded brown to me. ;)

Would you play Cairns Coral Coast Map?
Yes
63% [ 53 ]
No
22% [ 19 ]
Undecided
13% [ 11 ]

Total Votes : 83

mmmmm.....out of 1800 or so views, 83 votes is very disappointing, however the % for this map is extremely encouraging.

1800 views does not mean 1800 people viewed the thread. for example i think i viewed it 50 times

83 is actually pretty good, you have to consider that a lot of those page views were the same people checking back to see updates and responses.

Also, I think your percentage would be a lot higher if you hadn't started this poll back when the map way much less playable than it is now.

Thanks guys for your encouraging outlook on the stats.

As per the map above on this page 9, I have changed the bridges to this 3 dimensional image.

I don't mind the old brown one Andy, but thought I would give it one last attempt to create something like a stone bridge before resorting back to the brown one.

Does it suite? Too big, too grey? What are your thoughts.

they are too bulky. and again i see you resampled the bridge image to different sizes. in general i like all icons to be the same size. just make one bridge and copy paste it to different locations and rotate it to suit your needs.
for example. the palm cove - cairns bridge should be identical in size and position with the one in saddle mtn - kerada but in fact it is smaller.

so try adjusting them a bit. the colour is ok, but i somehow think it lacks texture. the problem is you have no place to add texture :(

or maybe try a top-down view like this:

Yes, that's a good thing actually. It shows that he really cares about the maps. We need more people like Dim!

actually i really like to design maps and i also like to exercise my gfx skills. if people don't give me something to do on my map i might as well do gfx for other maps :)
plus an image is worth 1000 words and this way i can express myself more clearly

I like the bridges, just round ogg or expand those pointy edges and they will be fine. no point in making them top down if nothing else is, trees mountains, etc

DiM, Mibi, Ruben...thanks for the feedback.....
As you might appreciate, one can simply NOT just copy and paste in order to create texture of darkness and shadow, it just doesn't work that way. The Mareeba and Atherton bridges cannot simply be rotated to achieve light and shadow to suit the Nerada - Bartle Frere bridge, nor the reverse side of light and shadow for the Kuranda bridge. I had tried to create bridges with 3 dimensional effect, and it has almost worked: this style of perspective require a more artistic approach. A little more stone texture might enhance it further. As per real life, engineers simply do not just copy and paste and swivel one bridge across one river to another river.
As with the mountains, there are several different size images in different locations that go into creating these chains of mountains.
Really with artistic license, there is no right nor wrong way of doing things, it's all in the eye and mind of the viewer.
I hope you look forward to the next version.

Marvaddin....yes the latest changes are simply to the bridge and posting of the xml file. Kinda waiting on some input from others especially Andy.
Thanks for enquiring.
