Well I searched no points and just for fun and got nothing...

Obviously that was not a very good search. This has been suggested many times.

Funny how the OP did a search and didn't find it, so rather than add something positive to the discussion you have to be sarcastic. If it bothers you that he made the suggestion then why bother reading the post at all. After all the subject does describe it pretty well.

I think just for fun games could be fun but its like Hardy said so many of those who are afraid to lose their points would just hide there.

Here's a hint as to why that failed. And I quote:

Search found 34801 matches: +points

ignored: no

When you use the search button, words like "no" are ignored. So you searched the entire forums for the word "points", which, as you can see, can have quite a few posts. Now, when you search for "just for fun", you get no matches. Why? Because people didn't use that exact lingo. You've got to actually think about what they could have named their thread, and search for that

Sarcasm? Telling him to modify his search so that he actually finds the shit-ton of other threads about this very same idea and maybe actually reads what others have already said and doesn't have the exact same argument a 5th or so time is sarcasm? Sorry, my dictionary is obviously a misprint on the word. And I love how you spend double your efforts trying to bait me into flaming, and half that time "contributing", by saying "it would be fun, but what about what someone else posted". That gives you the extreme contribution medal, don't you know, for immense helping of a thread.

God Emperor Q wrote:maybe this shouldnt count in the "must be active every 30 days" rule

Now, this is where this fancy, modified search button comes in handy..

Herakilla wrote:sure, make it not reset the scoreboard
just get to a high rank then start playing only unranked and once a month play one speed game
see what i mean?

With unranked games, people that are the Conqueror (everyone knows the retarded shit-drama that happens with sjnap and King_Herpes) could play a shit ton of unranked games, then one speed a month against their friends, and stay at the top for a shit ton longer. Then you'll have the fun people, such as Farang, complaining about how this option does not help create a more fair and just scoreboard, because people can just win and then hide, while still enjoying the site, with 0 risk of losing their coveted spot. And lastly, you'll have people that want to know why you can't:

-Have the option of paying points to play unranked games; ie, everytime you play one, you give up 10 points.
-Only have a limited number per month, such as 5, so people can test new maps.
-Why not make it a premium option, so that you are paying to get a little extra fun from the site.
-Why not just give it to newcomers for their first 4 games, so they're not farmed immediately and have a little time.

Of course, every one of those questions is answered in one or more threads somewhere. The trick is, look for them. I could copy and paste the answers, but I'm afraid I'm just too damn sarcastic with my weird, modified, actually-finding-relevant-information-search option, so I'll leave it up to you.

Hey Kotaro, you're being a jerk. And you're wrong.

Kotaro wrote:With unranked games, people that are the Conqueror (everyone knows the retarded shit-drama that happens with sjnap and King_Herpes) could play a shit ton of unranked games, then one speed a month against their friends, and stay at the top for a shit ton longer.

And they can do the same thing now, except minus the "unranked part", with the same result. Heck, if they're playing their friend, they could have them intentionally lose some of the games to prevent a score change. Nothing changes. The best way to solve this problem is a change in the scoreboard itself.

Kotaro wrote:Then you'll have the fun people, such as Farang, complaining about how this option does not help create a more fair and just scoreboard, because people can just win and then hide, while still enjoying the site, with 0 risk of losing their coveted spot.

You're just using the opportunity to flame someone you don't like. His concern is a valid one, but it's unwarranted (see above).

No reason to have any of that. Unranked games should be available to all, at any time.

The reason this idea is suggested all the time is because it's a good idea. I have no clue why lack & co. aren't doing this. I hesitate to play my RL friends on CC because they're privates but possibly have the skill of lieutenants (they rarely play at all). A scoreboard change would be nice also... :)

Another idea could be that everyone's points degrade by 1 per day. A lot of online games use this to keep one player from making the top rank and then going inactive.

For someone that is very close to being a mod, you don't read. However, I'm going to address your first part of the post against John, who can't read either, it seems.

No, they can't. Since you can't read, let me spell it out for you.
A - People enjoy this site
B - People enjoy their points
C - With this idea, people can play as many games as they want per month, all for "fun", with only 1 ranked speed game a month. This will allow them to stay on top of the scoreboard, yet still play 100's of games a month. Why risk your points when you can stay the best and take only a single risk a month?

(I underlined the important part for you, to help you.

Haha, so we get to the root of it.
Giving anyone the ability to play unranked games constantly opens it to abuse.
And you're just posting so you can slip in a different suggestion and troll sailoarseal's idea with your own scoreboard change. Bravo to you, good sir, I didn't even realize until I got to the bottom. Expertly done, Sir. Troll. You remind me of the great Owen.

Yes some may maintain their score, but others will keep getting points until they get ahead of the top dog. Then the dog has to risk his points, or stay in second. I do agree though, it has a potential abuse problem, but I think a compromise can be reached and this would be a nice feature.

Guys, lets keep the insults off this forum, that goes to both sides...

Keep your little snide moderator comments to yourself until you become one.

As people move up the rank, they get closer to the private, but they also become a lot more susceptible to huge point losses. It could take someone years to get to 6000 points, because of random dumb luck. And during that time, the Conqueror can just sit back and relax.

Har har, good one. I'd tell you to take it to Flame Wars, but you'd get torn apart in there.

It doesn't matter if this is the Internet. Maybe you don't consider the fact that there's someone else on the other end of the wire. An actual person. Just because you don't see their face doesn't make you any less of a jerk.

I think you're the one who isn't reading. Earlier, I said that it is possible for someone to play their friends and not lose points. All they have to do is get their friends to throw a few games, and they've got their points back. If you're talking about playing against the general CC populace, then how about this: private games cannot be unranked. They can play against their friends, but it will be hard unless they're all on at the same time.

Kotaro wrote:I'm not complaining about the current system, and I'm not complaining about this idea of a system. Telling sailorseal why his idea will allow for easy circumventing =/= complaining, it is actually called "informing"

That's exactly what I'm doing right now. Quit flaming unless you actually have reasonable thoughts.

Besides, seal already said you have a beef with him. I think it's safe to say that you're judging him by what he wrote in some other forum, not by the actual content of this thread.

First of all, it's not "my" scoreboard change. The idea was from cicero in the Scoring Ad-Hoc.

Second, the suggestion addresses the same problem that this one does. So, it's perfectly reasonable to post it in here.

Third, I'm defending both this idea and the scoreboard change, and you still don't have a rebuttal against either. You're just saying the same thing over and over. Actually read what I wrote this time, please, or get somebody to help you.

haha, I'm sure. And you know nothing of my life, so prejudging me just makes yourself look ignorant.

Throwing games is an abuse of the system, and usually pretty detectable by the Multi-hunters. And the fact is, people don't have to play private games. Point is, they can play 1 game a month, and start 50 fun games in public. Then, they get to enjoy being the "best"/high-ranked, and not have to risk their points in all but 1 game, where they could do as above, perhaps play a real 1v1; just make it against someone who has near rank, and they won't lose too much. A free way to stay on the top, while others are busy fighting and lowering each others score? And only need a point change of 20 or so per month? Sounds pretty nice and easy to abuse to me.

And maybe the rest of us are trying to "inform" the mods about problems with the current system. You just call it complaining because it serves your purposes.

haha. I never said you were complaining. You said I was complaining, because I'm giving you feedback on A) why this idea has been rejected 20 or so times, and B) the reasoning behind why that has happened.

Kotaro wrote:And you're using this opportunity to A) not actually read, and B) look like an idiot. And for the record, I have no beef with sailorseal; when people post like idiots, I make them look like such

Besides, seal already said you have a beef with him. I think it's safe to say that you're judging him by what he wrote in some other forum, not by the actual content of this thread.

That's exactly what I'm doing right now. Quit flaming unless you actually have reasonable thoughts. And no, I have no beef with seal. or Owenshooter. Or anyone else. When people make posts that are pretty stupid, I make truthful, but harsh posts about why their idea is stupid. It just so happens, that seal pops up a lot.

No... it doesn't, not any more than the current system. See above, and read it this time.

This wouldn't fix any of the current abuse though, it would merely open the way for much more abuse, and make it easier.

First, it doesn't matter whos idea it is. Farang had several, porkerbeans had a few; the final line is, when you pick up the flag and start running around in other threads, posting about how this idea would help someone elses, than you're trolling others to support your idea.

Second, this suggestion addresses making fun games, which most newbies won't notice right away anyways, and they'll still have a chance to be farmed before they even notice. And some won't directly understand the idea of the point system, so they won't know to play unranked first. And then, some will be cocky, even if they do understand, and still play ranked to start. This idea adds fun games; it isn't there to be a "omg stop farming now" suggestion, it's just a "have a little more fun" suggestion.

Third, I've made many rebuttals throughout this thread, in very fine, easy to read text. If you can't understand that, then there is no reason for me to post, since you don't seem to understand it anyways. Not overly shocking, but it is reasonable, with how many on this forum are.

Oh, and your "you are too stupid to read" flame-bait was in pretty poor taste. Since I'm such a dick in real life, you're sure showing me how you're so much better.

Fact: this idea has been suggested before, many times.
Fact: rejected, time and time again.

sailorseal wrote:Can I remind everyone these games will not keep you on the scoreboard, so people have to risk points

Can I remind you to read my posts? One game a month keeps you on the scoreboard. So being able to play unlimited fun games, and just play 1 speed game to keep you up there, is an easy, ass hole-ish way to keep yourself on top with next to no risk. And, if you're friends with an extremely low ranked and you're, say, the conqueror, you can ask them to throw a game, in a non-suspicious way; just make it look like you're playing very badly and/or dice are screwing you. Then, said cook loses 2-9 points, depending on how low, which is nothing, and they stay on the top for another month.

In one of your later post you explained how search ignores the work "no". That would have been more informative by teaching the OP and myself how the search function works.

I have introduced several people to the site won against them several times without a loss. Has anyone accused me of being a farmer? No.
