seems like something that is only useful for ppl that put someone on their ignore list for stupid reasons. why are you playing a game with someone on your ignore list? and why not just remove them from your ignore list? and why do you want to read something that you are trying to "ignore"?

What if I don't want to ignore what they are saying, I just dont' want to play against them.

I'm fine with the idea, if I understand what 3Asefa is typing. But quit your bitching, you're on his ignore list deal with it. He gave you a reason too, a good one at that. I'm sure after this display you're gonna be on alot more peoples iggy list.

What if you are in a game with them and you add them whilst you are in that game.

The same reason you care about what people are saying who aren't on your ignore list.

Ignore list

Postby kpolski on Fri Jan 04, 2008 3:13 pm

Everyone obviously has a different point of view and you could argue a long list of Pro's and cons for adding players to the ignore list.

There's not necessarily a right or wrong answer.

I have a diplomatic solution as always and suggest we get two flexible ignore controls and not one:

1) ignore a player to join the home team

AND

2) ignore a player to join as an oponent

ignore list

Postby ser stiefel on Fri Jan 04, 2008 5:25 pm

The only problem I have is if you want to ignore someone because of offensive chat, you would have to tolerate their offensive chat in a team game even if they are on your ignore list.

Kploski's idea would resolve this, but would still allow the for the ability to only play against weaker players... (if I understand you Kploski)

Not sure that there is a very good solution.

I think I am for the change.

i agree with kploski, pascalleke, and boss. But i also agree with ser stiefel, i dont want offensive chat . trash talking is fun but some people can get out of hand. just my humble thought.

I wouldn't put people on ignore that kicked my ass once too often and I wouldn't put teammates with a history of 'poor' play on ignore either. Mistakes are human and they are more then welcome to join the opposing team. :P

Unfortunately I don't think the ignore function could be modified so that it can't be 'abused', it's a bit of a gray area which I'm afraid we're all going to have to live with.

this is a cool idea, but its so much work, with so little advantage...ignore is a pretty drastic measure... so easy to just keep it unilateral and keep them from your games... i dont think the number of times youd want them just not on your team, is enough to warrant it.. typically, you can drop the game if you see them on your team anyways... and if you ask someone not to join your team, and they still do, then you can use the ignore list... seems a lot easier than having a bunch of coding and another button...

its a great idea in general, i just dont think it justifies the work it would take

Ahhh The old ignore list issue. Although this comes up time to time, in my opinion, it is abused way to much.

But my way of handleing it is not the norm. I put no one on my ignore list. Understand what this means I right now have over 100 active games going. all have the right to play me. But my way is not your way I respect that.

So you must decide what is right for you. either have an ignore list yourself and know others will also. or have no ignore list as I do.

do or do not there is no middle ground.

Ignore means I dont want to see your face, period. Otherwise the annoying people could join your games and bother you, when you don't want this at all.

another solution

Postby kpolski on Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:50 pm

You could always address some of the issues with a more flexible game password system where you can either decide to have a password for the whole game or a password just for your team and allow the rest of the game to be opened up to all other users.....unless of course you blocked them! LOL

abuse

Postby kpolski on Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:59 pm

there should however be some scrutiny over players who over-use the ignore fucntion.

Other sites do I believe.

I don't remember 'blocking players' being in my RISK rule book.

The odd occasion is acceptable where there's an obvious idiot loose on the site (and that's another discussion point!), but, where it's clearly over used and becomes a game strategy to avoid high ranking players or avoid High point losses it no different to CHEATING!!

The penalty should be SUDDEN DEATH........sorry getting carried away
