Indeed a hollow victory that makes even Hilary look like champion of the world and Queen of the Universe.
Hard not to feel ripped off. :(  Perhaps tie-breakers should be played at the end of a war instead?

You could argue that in the case of an even score to look at GD first, if still tied then create a tie-breaker of give the win to the clan with the most away-wins.

Actually, now that you mention it. That is exactly how these poly wars should be decided.
There should be no tie-breaker unless the overall game count is equal.
So, more than a hollow victory, I think we should actually have a real victory.

If we did not have the electoral college, candidates would campaign different. In this tournament, it was best of 3. It is not uncommon to give up or put in less effort if you are going to lose. 1-2 can become 0-3 quite easily. If the criteria was total wins, we would likely have played some games differently...

I'm not doubting that, but I think for next years' poly cup (or whenever the next one is...) it's a good point to discuss. Take whatever sport you like to watch (chess and the likes excluded), do they have tiebreakers? I'm a soccer fan, and the league in my country has 18 teams. If you're unfamiliar with soccer, most league have a double round robin system in which 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. If after 34 games two teams are tied, their standing will be determined by their goal difference (goals scored - goals conceded). If still tied, we move to other means. Point is: no tiebreaker unless literally everything is tied.

I just think it's worth looking at, without wanting to downplay TOFU's victory.

Obviously, I am not trying to contest the result. Rules are rules.
But at the same time I don't necessarily accept loutil's contention that some games would've been played differently.
Anyway, that is a moot point. But it does actually add fuel to the argument for the tie-breaker to be discontinued next time.

If a tied war was decided on overall game count, then even after losing 2 games a player would still be motivated to win the third.
Adding that extra element of fighting for the overall score of the clan would make it even more interesting imo.
I see no drawback to this. Conversely, a random set of tie-breaker games can of course be lost due to pure bad luck.

Re: [POLY] Round 2 - TOFU (21) vs (19) FOED - 1 game left

Postby IcePack on Wed Jan 18, 2017 2:12 pm

Is this over? Last post was over a month ago saying 1 game left. Just curious as I was browsing the poly war threads.

Also saw the conversation taking place here. This isn't a league as some compared it to, as such there is a required 41 game and can't be settled on a 40 game tie breaker.

Pertinent rules are as follows:
Wars:
The clan war must be of a minimum 41 games and must provide a winner during the regular flow of the war.

Then the tourney could add 1 more home set? Would make for 42 games and the same could apply.

Actually since it falls under tournaments I think it has slightly different wording. Whoever runs it can contact Lindax and propose the idea. It might fall under guidelines.
