It would have negative affects on nearly everyone. It punishes the even the most dedicated players on the site.
It punishes them for one missed turn, which is not a big deal at all.
It punishes those with near 100% turn taking rates.
It punishes all those who joined their games hoping to play against them.
It punishes all of their partners in all of their waiting team games.
And, it punishes these most dedicated players, simply because some miss a lot of turns.
I cant eve believe the idea could be entertained.
I do agree that at some number of missed turns over some period of time, games could be dumped.
But, even one missed speed turn is not that hard to do, and would probably do more harm than good. At two missed speed turns, its a good idea.
At 3 Missed turns in one standard game, it means there very well could be a problem, and taking action would be helpful, and perhaps even at 2 missed turns, or, many missed turns in a 48 hour period would help someone who ran into some trouble, but at one turn, or even many turns in under 24 hour period, which is easy for anyone to have happen, it just does far more harm to punish them, and all their waiting teammates.
It actually could be dealt with. It could send out an invite, and invite you back into the game, instead of just dropping you, and reserve you in all the games you have pending, upon your second missed turn. At least least then, those that dont miss many, would not be affected and will just rejoin their games. If the two turns were missed, it does become more likely that the person will be helped by being dropped, but it still does not address the team game situation fully.
Again, it seems like a lot of coding, with a lot of problems, and seems to punish more of the dedicated players more harshly than the ones that are supposedly being targeted by this suggestion in the first place.
But at one missed turn in even speed, it is absolutely going to cause far more problems than it can ever hope to solve.
The majority of the site doesnt even notice or care about deadbeats. Punishing the majority for them missing turns, seems a little harsh.
One other idea, that may be too unfair is limit it to freemium accounts, because they are far more likely to have moved on completely, and may very well stop many games from being deadbeated. Also, at worst, they miss a couple turns, and get dropped out of 3 games total. The main problem here, is the dedicated ones, were possibly waiting for those games to fill for a while, probably just had a temporary problem, and now would perhaps have to wait another week to play a CC game, which may very well be ample time for them to quit. It doesnt seem like the best idea to retaining and grabbing new customers.
