When making a suggestion, it is recommended that you use the form provided, as well as (more importantly) the search function. That way you would know that this has been suggested over, and over, and over again. Each time getting the response of "It is highly unlikely that anything less than 5 minutes will ever be used for round length".

Since it has been suggested "over and over and over again", don't you think some thing would be done :?:

think a super speed option would be cool, like a game of chess, I really like the idea

I don't see it up on the "Lack's To-Do" list so it's not so bad.

I don't play Speed games, but I think 1 min would be a good option for those that like that sort of punishment. :)

When you don't like the answer you've received, asking again doesn't tend to be the best way to change that.

That would be a clock... like each player has 30 minutes of time per game
which winds down for each player with each turn.

Fine. Carry on making the same suggestion over, and over again. Best of luck.

why is this such an unreasonable idea? If it has been asked for many so times, then why hasn't it happened? Is there some BIG reason behind it or is it just that everyone thinks 5 min is short enough?

I would suspect that it's mostly for reasons of inclusion. Some people have pretty shitty internet connections, making 5 minute rounds difficult to play within, and anything shorter impossible. Also, even on a decent connection, there are situations where killing someone can take a full 5 minutes, with multiple fronts, needing to be careful with attacks (ie, not auto-attacking everything) etc. While shorter rounds might make sense on certain maps/settings, there are also a fair number of maps/settings that are already difficult to play with 5 minutes, and would be impossible with less.

I know I'm kinda new to speed, but I've yet to come across a map that can't be played in 1 minute turns. Humor me with a few.

Anything very large, has the possibility. The more multiple fronts, the more likely.

Any progress on this?

I always seem to find my way here when I want to play a quick game and end up waiting 4+ minutes per turn...

Still nothing.
I belive that this idea is possible, and will be very velcome, but many thing is in hands of mods and LAckattack. If they also think that this can bring good improvment, then will be good. But then will be long time to waith,to implement, because they have to many thing in TO_DO list who waiting from 2006 years to be implemented.

It can take 5 minutes to take a turn in some games, especially if you're playing more than one at a time or need to do something in-between your turns.

We should probably merge all of these "Speed Game Times" threads together.

RE: SPEED GAMES - TIME OPTIONS

Postby cicero on Thu Mar 26, 2009 1:58 pm

Merge Post
All threads suggesting (the option of) shorter speed game round times merged:

SuperSpeed game option-You choose 1-5 minutes - posts from 29 January to 29 October 2008 - Note that this thread was itself a merge of 3 threads - see the merge post for details.

1 minute games? - posts from March 28 to 31 2008 - first post here
Speed Games - 18 April to 8 May 2008- first post here
Freestyle Super Speed Game option - 2 minutes per round - posts from 8 to 9 May 2008 - first post here
Speed Games 3 Minutes from 5 - posts from 2 to 5 June 2008 - first post here
2 minute speed game rounds - posts from 19 July to 24 July 2008 - first post here
SPEED GAMES TIME OPTIONS - posts from 26 December 2008 to 26 March 2009 - first post here
2-Minute Turn Game Option - posts from 14 to 20 January 2009 - first post here
1 min speed games - posts from 16 to 26 February 2009 - first post here
option for less time on speed games - posts from 16 to 23 March 2009 - first post here

Whilst searching for threads for merging I came across Time in Speed Games which is different enough that I have not merged it here. It's an interesting variation ...

Note that the merge post mentioned above contains a link to another interesting variation which again, because it is different enough, I have not merged here.

That merge post also contains links to two responses from AndyDufresne and I'd guess there are now many posts with him saying exactly the same thing within this newly merged topic:

I still don't understand why this isn't being considered... I wouldn't play it, but it is a great idea. I understand the cons, but those same cons can occur with regular speed games too. Give the people what they want!

This is a good idea and would prevent all those times you wait 5 minutes just so you can do something in the last 30 seconds.

One big problem might be that there would be a lot of games where someone wants 1 min, another person wants 3 min, and a third wants 5 min, but all the other settings they want are the same. Now instead of having a 3 player game, they each have a game set up, but no one is joining. Then people will complain about not being able to find a game.

Well now you all ready have these problem with some settings
Example: i want to play mine favourite Circuss maximus(escalating fog) when i go to game finder,i find that Klobber join all waiting game, and i can not join becuse he put me in ignore list.

Indeed, same here...of course Klobber putting us on his FOE list simply because we're too high ranking (this is specifically exactly what happened in my case, without question).

People, can we please keep this on topic.

Klobber and his foe list have already taken up way too much space in this forum to dedicate any more to him!

Thanks

Anyone who plays speed games will experience this. You'll want to play a speed game, but you'll notice that the only available games use settings and maps that you'd rather not play -- this is certainly nothing new to CC. The fix is to create a game with your own preferred settings, or bite the bullet and join a game with "sub-prime" settings.

One or two minutes may be too fast for some connections/computers, but it would at least be more fair than some settings that the site already employs! The other day, I reluctantly joined a freestyle assassin game -- reluctantly because my connection was running a little slow, and even though I WAITED for the game to begin, I was wiped out by my adjacently-dropped, lucky-rolling opponent before I could even deploy. Hey, I took the risk, I accept the results, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but a 1-minute turn will at least afford you the chance to do SOMETHING! I mean, I don't see how it's LESS fair than anything that's going on right now!

Also, do we need to use the term "SuperSpeed"? Can we call it "TURBO" game options?
