Merged: Terminator Deadbeats I

Postby mbohn2 on Sun Jul 30, 2006 4:05 pm

Deadbeat points in terminator games should go to the eventual winner of the map, at least that is my vote....there have been many deadbeats in the several games I have played and it is a lot to risk for so little to gain in this game type...

There are no points given to ANYONE for a deadbeat player. We are running into the same problem as before.....when a player gets a bad break on the setup or starts to lose they deadbeat intentionally to avoid losing points.

Do they actually lose points without anyone gaining from them, or do they get off free and clear?

What is the logic behind not gaining points from deadbeats in terminator games as opposed to standard games?

Terminator deadbeats

Postby SkyCaptain on Tue Sep 12, 2006 4:30 pm

I was just thinking, in terminator games, people who deadbeat lose no points, because no one actually kills them. So, my idea is that the winner of the game gets points from all the deadbeats like in normal games. Everyone else would still lose points in the same way, from the person who kills them, but whoever wins will get stuff off all the deadbeats. I dunno how tha coding would be, but I'm just throwing it out as a suggestion.

I saw that happen in a game and have considered it as a way of getting out of a game I have virtually no hope of winning. Plus, if you miss two turns and it looks like you won't survive the 3rd round, you get back-pay on armies.

It's totally cheating the system and I won't be the one to do it (I like to earn my points), but it's a viable option.
I was a major back when 1600 was major. Now that I'm back, I get to easily win a bunch of games to get my rank. Thank the 'tards here who suck at this game.

Terminator Deadbeats

Their points should go to the overall winner.

It's not complicated, since when are you allowed to get knocked out and not lose points?

Who is the overall winner? The last person standing, the person who knocks out the most players, or the person who gets the most points? Could be different people.

Is that the guy who got an easy-to-defend continent from the start and amassed units to proceed take out the last one or two guys?

An easy fix: anyone who deadbeats a terminator game loses points to everyone else playing, spread out evenly. If 4 other people are playing, he should lose 1/3 of the points he'd normally lose if that person conquered him, and each of those people should gain points.

For example, say red deadbeats. And say that under normal circumstances, if conquered by that color, red would lose 20 points to blue, 18 points to yellow, OR 29 points to green. In my solution, he would instead lose 6 points to blue, 6 points to yellow, AND 9 points to green, for a total of 21 points lost (approximately the average of the players' total points: (20+18+29)/3 = 67/3= 22). Those players would all gain those points, conserving the system's point average of 100 points per player.

If n number of players are playing, the 1/3 multiplier would change to a multiplier of 1/(n-1).

This would adequately discourage someone from deadbeating a terminator game they feel they couldn't win, but wouldn't cause inflation/deflation of points value.

Terminator Deadbeats...

Postby Molacole on Sun Oct 01, 2006 11:26 am

I just finished up a game (terminator) where I eliminated everyone excpet for 2 deadbeats. I checked my points right before I finished off the last guy and noticed that the 2 dead beats didn't give me any points.

Is this how it's intended to be? How are points subtracted from their score and not given to the winner if they deadbeat?

I've also checked the guys points and past games, totalled up the amount of points lost and he didn't lose anything for deadbeating in my game.

If this is the way it's supposed to be then that's fine, but if it's not then please don't fix it this week :P

That's the way it is. You lose no points if you successfully deadbeat a terminator game, because in order for you to lose points someone has to gain points.

Personally, I think when you deadbeat a terminator game you should lose points and the awarded points should be distributed among the remaining players since they had to put up with you being a deadbeat.

How would that work Ishiro? Who is deemed to have killed the deadbeat (to calculate the number of points the deadbeat should lose)? Also if there is more than one deadbeat the deadbeats would recieve each others points. The points will have to be divisable by the remaining number of players, otherwise points would have to dissapear from Conquer Club.

Ur idea is nice, but a bit hard to put into place.

yeah, it doesn't seem right if you are able to "not lose" a terminator game by being a deadbeat.

maybe terminator games shouldn't drop players for missing 3 turns?

XYZ gets the armies multiplied for 7 rounds.

Have fun with that. Maybe not very likely, but not impossible either.

It's not that points are disappearing, but peope are pretty retarded. Then again, so is terminator if you're a captain or higher, since people are usually gunning for you to get more points. Or at least, that's what I did at first... I joined a few terminator games and went after the majors and colonels.

Right, that is the idea, but say you're in an escalating terminator or Circus Maximus and you run the gambit....you kill everyone but the deadbeat...essentially you're losing those points.
