[GO] Separate Rooms for New Ranks

Postby spaceghst44 on Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:26 am

I think that CC needs to tweak the way players are ranked and the points received, or the way that the games are played. As a new member, I have discovered some interesting yet discouraging facts about the games played. If a lower ranked opponent is playing with two higher ranked opponents, the two high ranked opponents will do more to make sure that they do not lose to the lower ranked player than to beat the higher ranked player. This is a very Rawlsian approach to the game and makes most of the games played not really fun. It is really disappointing when you are beating another player just to hear that player make a truce with the other players in the game telling them how strong you are and how all their points will suffer if they let that person beat them. I understand the reasoning behind the ranks because it helps keep people in check from throwing games, dead beating, and letting other players win. But how are good players who are new to CC able to show that they have good strategies and are very good players when they have to constantly fight wars on multiple fronts? It is impossible to play any game except 1v1 as a lower ranked opponent because you will just get tag teamed from the beginning because of the ranks.

The best idea I have is to make different rooms for different ranks. People with a certain ranks can only enter a certain rooms, this way you re playing against "like" competition. Once you advance in the ranks you can advance in the rooms as well. This will protect the higher ranked players from the lower ranked players as well as allowing the better lower ranked players to advance once proven.

Other Ideas:

Ranks are able to be hidden or are shown only once per week.
Give placing bonuses; give points to people who finish in different positions.
Make all wins and loses equal with no points based on rank

This way people can keep their ranks and have more of an incentive to win, instead of having an incentive to not lose to the lower ranked players. This game is about winning wars not who is the best loser.

i like the idea of the bold, but i also like it when you get a vairiation of ranks in a game, i think that the idea would get rid of that...but still its good
like my crappy banner?

Somewhat similar idea have been rejected as lackattack has said he will not segregate the site based on points.

in over 600 games played i have had only one person suggest i should let them win rather than someone else because i would lose less points.

non segragation

Postby spaceghst44 on Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:24 pm

that is very easy to fix, you have another room that is a free for all

This should be fixed from an economic stand point, if the site wants to grow. If it wants to just kepp the current members, then it should do nothing.

i do play well, I am not scared of anyone on this site. It is hard to get invited to a private gme without a high rank, it is even harderd to get a high rank when you have 3 higher ranks teaming up on you so that they don;t lose to you.

I am still a new player here, but from playing other games:

The person who starts a game (sets up the game) should have a say in who joins their game.

Some places have this with ratings, Say their rating is 1200. They choose the following options when starting a game:

Ratings 1100-1300
Ratings 1000-1400
Ratings 900-1500
and so on
All Ratings
Unrated

The range is just based off of your current ranking.[/b]

So far the various Rating Systems to Join Games ideas have been shot down because they just seperate and divide the community.

For now, the best thing to do is create Private Games, perhaps join a Clan of certain ranks, and wait for phpBB 3.0 to come out.

Ready rooms for players of the same rank

Postby jackin_u_up on Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:13 pm

Ready rooms for players of the same rank

An option to give new players a safe place to make and join games. would be to open up ready rooms a.k.a. game lounges based on ranks of the players.
It would be a safe place for players of their own rank to organize and join games.
Access to the games would only be allowed by those who fit into the ranking parameters.Much like the officers club or sgt.'s club etc..
All newbies would be allowed to only join games in these rooms til they either gain a certain rank thus keeping safe from the farmers.
Higher ranked players don't have to worry about who joins their games.
Not all games would have to be made in these ready rooms but it could assure that higher ranked players could not join them because they would not have access to these rooms.

This would eliminate the ability of players to farm newbies until they get some skills

I like this idea, there might be a couple of issues with it though. I'd guess that the majority of the New Recruits wouldn't know about the rooms, and would just go straight to Join A Game where they can get attacked by the farmers, and the farmers probably just wouldn't use the rooms at all.

It's a nice idea for the rest of us who enjoy playing people of similar rank though, and get annoyed when n00bs join the games we start.

Were you thinking of having individual lounges for each separate rank, or grouping them together? For example:

Lounge 1: New Recruits, Cooks & Cadets
Lounge 2: Privates & Private 1st Classes
Lounge 3: Corporals & Corporal 1st Classes
Lounge 4: Sergeants & Sergeant 1st Classes
Lounge 5: Lieutenants and Captains
Lounge 6: Majors and Colonels
Lounge 7: Brigadiers, Generals and Field Marshals
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

I think it should be more of what 1 rank up and down from your rank is the people that have access to that room. Except the top which is colonel+ (any less is too few, and all majors is too many in my opinion.)

There are rank specific threads in the Callouts forum where games can be set up with a specific password. I have yet to get to a rank where I would be eligible for these games, so I am not sure how getting the password works. Maybe this is part of what you are looking for.

Nope not even Lance...i know exactly what your talking about and have played in those game.
What i am proposing is that CC have a Ready room/game lounge specific for certain ranks.
There could also be a free for all lounge where anybody over a certain rank could join those games.
All ? newbies with under say 50 -100 games would have to start or find their games in their specific ready room.
Personally it would help me from having to scroll thru 6 pages of dubs games to find someone over Capt. to play with or against.
As far as the breakdown to who could join what ready rooms it would be easy to figure that out.

AN Example already provided by Tupence

Lounge 1: New Recruits, Cooks & Cadets
Lounge 2: Privates & Private 1st Classes
Lounge 3: Corporals & Corporal 1st Classes
Lounge 4: Sergeants & Sergeant 1st Classes
Lounge 5: Lieutenants and Captains
Lounge 6: Majors
Lounge 7: Colonels
Lounge 8: Brigadiers, Generals and Field Marshals

That doesn't really work though. It would mean that there had to be 1 room for every rank and then people would get access to the appropriate rooms (3 for everyone up to major (or captain for your opinion) and 2 for colonels and 1 for those above).
