Only Premium Members can make suggestions

Postby blakebowling on Sat Jan 17, 2009 11:55 pm

Concise description:
  • Only Premium Members are allowed to make suggestions

Specifics:
  • Only premium members could start topics in Suggestions (This would either require Sugs and Bugs to be made two seperate forums or Bugs to be made e-Ticket only)
  • Free members would still be able to reply and give feedback to suggestions.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • lack will only have to deal with suggestions that really matter, from the people that help pay for the site
  • (for the division of suggestions and bugs) The forum would be more organized.

And if there's a bug that only affects the non-premium players, we'll never have to know about it.

Not having bugs reported would be counter-productive, membership runs out, and non-members could technically ask a member to report the bug. I don't know about this one.

My Post clearly states that it would be for suggestions only, and it would either require it to be split into two forums or bugs to be made eTicket only.

E-ticket? 90% of bugs are user errors and get solved by people in the forum.

Just split the forum. Only the premium members can make a new topic in the suggestions one, and then everyone gets access to the bugs one.

I see why you are coming from, but I have to think a bit.
A freemium member can still find some random premium person to post the suggestion, so will it really help?

They could, but if they want to go through that much trouble to get something suggested, might as well let them do it.

And I was thinking the best reason would be to split the forum, but I posted all possible options.

Let's look at this from two perspectives:
1.Horrible Idea:In order for anyone to make a suggestion, they either have to be a mod or pay 25 bucks to become a premium member. Is that really necessary?
2.Terrific Idea:It represents the injustice in society, because a lot of the time the elite (wealthy and powerful) control what goes on in a government and the country.

What about players who cannot afford to buy the premium membership, or people who are minors who can't convince there parents to buy them premium membership.

completely wrong, cos this is not demand and get forum. this is suggestions and bug forum. Means any suggestion made here is be sure eveluated by some certain responsibles and investigated if the author is making a suggestion to be handy and nice for the site.
1. What does lack have to gain by doing what someone who doesn't pay for his site wants.
With a handy and useful suggestion made by premium or freemium, lack will make his site better or not.
2. This isn't a society, it's a website.
This is a community living in the website.
Remember, any innovations and/or discoveries made so far starting from the human's history had nothing to do with where those discoveries innovations and ideas came from but if it was useful or not. Cristopher Columbus was not a lord or nooble, but was a very ordinary one claimed something, run behind his claim and gave u the lands u r staying right now. And there are a lot of examples i can expand my claim with them.

And what about ex premiums but now freemiums ?

Just because you didn't pay for premium doesn't mean your opinion is worthless. Blatant promotion of elitism, I expect Freeium Forces would no doubt have a great deal to say about this..... suggestion(I use the word loosely).

As already pointed out by other posters, the idea is counter-productive and does not add any real value to the site.

Maybe it's just me, but he has a tremendous amount to gain from it, if the suggestion is a good one. To arbitrarily cut out potential good improvements seems...well...very inefficient, to say the least.

very few of the suggestion made by freemiums are good ones and if they do have a really good idea they can ask a premium friend to post it for them

Who precisely is a judge of what's a good idea or a bad idea? This suggestion is merely designed to hamper Freeium players in the forum and deny potentially good ideas from getting aired. This suggestion does not add to the site beyond adding an arbitrary nuisance to Freeium accounts to try and encourage them to pay $25 to go premium. If that's the premise then the OP needs to make it a gameplay related sanction(like the 4 games only limit) rather than hamper their ability to express an idea for public debate.

A gameplay related sanction?

And as Jeff Hardy said, most of the suggestions free members make are bad (most of them haven't been done), if they do have something good that a premium wants, then the premium can post it for them.

I'm at a loss as to why anyone would want this. First, what's to say a freemium can't have the next great CC idea, something that would really improve the game? However, if this is implemented, that freemium has to go through the effort to find a premium to post his idea. All of my friends that play are currently free, and I don't care how good my idea is, I'm not going to go through extra effort to post my idea for a game that has already stated it doesn't want to hear my ideas.

Second, as a business decision, this makes no sense at all. A person is much more likely to pay money for a game that has implemented one of their ideas or at least paid it serious attention.

So, no, this is a horrible idea. We all play the same game and all experience the same issues we find with it, and by limiting who can suggest ideas, you're cutting out a large group of people who have the same ability as anyone else to say suggest something profound.

Here is why the suggestion is GOOD: (people have pointed out the bad)

Much of the time that a freemium member makes a suggestion, it is something to the effect of:

1. You miss a turn, you are out, or get no deferred armies etc.

This has been rejected many times. Life happens, if someone's relative dies and they go to their funeral rather than take CC turns, do they deserve to lose all their games as a welcome back?

This suggestion is hardly a problem with premium members, most of who play enough games so that they barely notice someone misses their turn, or if they don't get enough action, they can get in some more games. So it is in effect simply a way for freemium members to play more without having to pay.

2. Resign button. Surrender Button. Suicide Button...

Again, rejected many times because of cheating, and suggested every other day by a freemium member. What are the arguments for it?
A. If you have obviously lost a game, then you do not need to have it drag out.
B. Build games which you can't get out of.
etc.

So once again, only affect freemium members. Premium members can start another game and spent about 5 minutes taking their final turns in the game they have already lost. What are the benefits to lack if freemium members can play more games in a smaller period of time by resigning every time they get bored of one?

3. etc...

Don't get me wrong. Freemium members often make good suggestions. But things such as the ones above, or "ban members who have less that 100% turn taken" are bound to be rejected since the effect on the paying members of the site (who are pretty much lack's salary), is an aota. If lack wanted to work for no gain, he would do things for charities that helped people in need, not people on the internet who want to play more games.

On the whole, I reject the idea. I thought about it, and it is really not worth it. Not a bad idea, but I personally don't like it.

I'm thinking it'd be difficult to manipulate the forum software to allow only premium members start new topics.

I see the argument being made that many of the ideas posted by freemium members aren't eventually put into effect as evidence that freemiums don't have good ideas. Of course, its also true that most of the suggestions posted by premium members are also not put into effect but apparently they're still worthwhile. IMO this is one of the more foolish ideas put forth on this board.

Are you trying to tell me that anyone who decided to pay $25 a year for a membership to this site is automatically smarter than me?

Hear hear!

The Neon Peon made some good points as to why this was a good idea, and those points do have merit. However, being someone who has never made one of those suggestions, I resent the fact that the OP wants to take away my privilege to do so. IMO, his reasoning is no less selfish than those who make the Resign button, Surrender Button, Suicide Button suggestions.
