How to crack this 3-way stalemate?

Postby MrGato on Sun Jul 26, 2009 10:21 am

Hi,

Game #: 5070573

Thanks for taking a look. Teal is deadbeating. He is using it as a stratigy. He'll come back when he sees an opportunity and attack with a massive army. After he did it the 1st time I thought I could get blue on my side for a 2v1, but he wouldn't go for it. I'm sure he doesn't feel he has a chance with me, but he isn't forming an alliance with teal either. I'm not interested in forming an alliance with teal. I don't like his tactics.

The problem is that if I attack Lake Morris West, blue will attack me. He'll probably take Crystal Cascade, but he has shown a tendency to go after Freshwater. It would be 20v20 so...with a good roll he may break my larger bonus. Teal, watches for these moments when blue and I are weakening each other. He'll come in strong to take out my Redlynch and Barron bonuses. He'll start his turn with 30 armies.

I don't see an advantageous way to unbalance this game. I've seen others make bold, seemingly suicidal, moves that have resulted in wins. Any suggestions?

Thx,
MrGato

P.S. I don't really care to make a case against teal for a rule violation.

It looks to me like it would be in your interest to keep the stalemate for as long as possible beucase you're getting th most forts.

I'd also make sure to punish teal when he skips turns by breaking him as much as possible,
but leaving him alone when he plays nice.

Pounce on the opportunity.

My strategy in these situations.

whenever the following scenario occurs i've won -

wait until there's a situation where the weakest player has 4 or 5 cards so you can immediately cash after taking him out.
You'll need to be sure that you'll have more armies remaining at the end of your turn than the remaining opponent. and you'll need to reduce his bonus to at least the 5-6 range, preferably to a minimum of 3.

i won a game like that a month or so ago on phillipines - 6 man flat rate, stalemate with 3 of us left

i had about 210 armies, other player had about 160, other player had about 50.

i actually took out the player with 160 left first because he had 5 cards and only 3 territories. i had my largest stacks pointing at him.

i began the attack, got good dice at the outset and kept going and won,.

i've done something like this a number of times with 3 people left.

Thx for the replies. Teal came back from skipping a turn to break my Redlynch bonus. I just counted up the armies. I see teal has around 130, whereas blue and I have around 90 each. I'd love to just play defense and build up a large army but teal seems to be the only one able to do that. Blue has a thing for going after me. I think teal will be going after Trinity pt and Yarrabah on his next turn. Teal overextended himself one time and I was able to get in and do some damage, but then blue started in on me. That's why that army is sitting in Yarrabah, doing nothing.

The more I look at this map the more I think teal is going to win.

Well, it's good to talk this one out. Thx again.
