to lose 100 points in 1 game means you were playing a noob. If you play players at your own rank you can drop 5 games for the same amount of points.

Flaming and baiting is against CC's rules, if you think someone is farming/breaking rules then make a thread against them in cheating + abuse. Better than stalking them around the forums and posting off-topics. You are just coming across as a very bitter troll.

Please stay on topic whitestazn88, it is an offence to derail a thread or not stay on topic.

Mr C, stay the course, you could be a General easy. (see whitestazn88, that's what staying on topic is about).

Well sure..."playing for fun" doesn't mean you play the maps or styles you don't like. That would be the OPPOSITE of fun. <grin>

Not necessarily. There are 2 games here at Conquerclub. The actual games themselves, and the meta-game of gaining, and maintaining points. Everyone has their own balance between these 2 things. Some people really enjoy playing the meta-game, and going for the top, while others thrive on the intense strategy of a large escalating game (or whatever other game they really enjoy). I don't think anyone is ever saying that going for the highest score you can get requires not enjoying yourself. Just that not everyone derives the same enjoyment from the same aspects of ConquerClub. Which is why I will stand by my statement of, "Play the games that make you the happiest." Whatever those may be.

Right...it's sort of like in the business world. Some people are "ladder climbers", doing everything they can to move up and reach the top. Some folks are happy just plugging away being good at what they do, and don't really aspire to climbing past the job that they just love to do. Neither view is wrong...it's really a personality thing, in my opinion.

Rank is either a priority or it's not. For many, that's where the FUN is.
I also expect that some heavy forum users are under the impression that their rank gives weight to their opinions.
For others, (including myself) it's seeing that one game out of 5 turn into a really great struggle, or that perfect "pull it out of the fire" win that gives you that great rush.

I've been a major, but to get there I had to forswear 1 v 1's and speed games. So after getting the rank I was gunning for, I discovered that as much as that was Sweet, I missed the speed game aspect of the site.

Theres nothing wrong with changing up the way you use the site, if in the end you get more out of it. Play what contents you TODAY. You can always focus on rank later on and build it back up to the comfort level you require.

i dont think there's any real difference in ability between the 1st ranked player and the 800th.

Ah ha! NEW high score of 2566 due to the fact that I WON the crazy 'no officer go there' game.

\:D/

That's two in a row...

How am I supposed to make a glorious statement if the score keeps going up? Kind of defeats the purpose all together if you think about it.

Game 5322303 In this one green deadbeats after a while (had to pick up his wife you see), yellow played oceana so badly it hurt and blue quite blatantly handed me the game by throwing all over the board, leaving me an easy break and then writing 'gg' and sodding off too!

I can't express how much I've missed these games. I'm like a pig in the proverbial shit.

I agree to a great extent with gannable's point. Certainly for the top 500 the difference is about game selection as much as ability. But it is hard to quantify exactly. There are certainly some players in the top 100 who are unusually good at this game...but there are a few on page 2 too!

Oh and quert, believing this game is only about dice is the preserve of the 1on1 seq. player, because in their case it is to a great extent true. But for most players overall, skill wins out over dice in the end.

Well, we can set up a few games together... that should get your score going in the lower categories that you seem to wish.

Or... you could just play some doodle assassins like me... great for fun... not so much for the score though

Certainly no doodle! I'm not saying I want to throw away my points, I AM saying I want to play the games I most enjoy (see game link above) and do my best to win them. I just know my points will drop. However, I also said I intend to maintain the major rank. That doesn't mean I am purposefully trying to lose points. If I win 5 in a row I'll be a very happy man, believe me. But I know a couple of losses and will send me plummeting.

I'm admitting here that I've avoided playing the style of Risk I've ALWAYS ENJOYED MOST due to worrying about rank. I'm sure I can't be the only one in this position. I'm now saying sod it, I going to play the game I like the most and rank be damned (to the limited extent of not dropping below Major...which I wouldn't expect to do anyway).

Don't misinterpret this as some kind of 'rank be damned I can't take it anymore!!!!' kind of thread. It isn't that at all.

Well, yes I know... and I was more or less saying the same thing....kind of.... to be honest those doodle assassin games are one of my favorite types...and when I no longer care about rank I tend to play them. When I am trying to gain points, I avoid many of the games that I like to play, and stick to point-positive games. Honestly, anyone who gets to major, or maybe even leutenant does this. If you dont choose your games correctly, Its hard to even reach captain.

I dont think the vast majority of CC players realize this actually. I think most think they arent good, or have bad dice, or are just missing some aspect of the game. Unfortunately, the only aspect they are missing is usually the types of game they are playing.

So yes, I think nearly all avoid the games they might want to play on occasion, because of rank.

But take it from me....ignoring the rank makes the game much, much more fun....on an individual basis...overall though, it is fun to be in the 3k range and hold it for a while. I can only speculate about the higher ranks for now though.

Lol, I made 57th place with a score of around 2,200 (which was colonel back then). Anyway, congrats mr. C, now sit back and play whatever you want. Maybe one day you'll only feel like playing only quads, or private high ranked games, then you can make general.

Point inflation was something of an abstract concept to me (being entirely self-centred) until I noticed that 2540 would make the first page when I got on to it but that the requirement seems to go up by about ten points a week.

I have instantly become someone who 'cares about point inflation' as a result!

Oh, I am. Been joining with Agent 86 and playing New World dubs foggy (very fun game that), I'm playing a rather strange 8 man dubs that involves jumping on to various oasis points to eventually conquer the centre (though no one seems to have the oomph to actually get there!) and will play my third speed classic 'assault the striper' game today once the wife goes out for some serious shopping "Yes my dear, do raid the bank account and buy another pair of shoes and do make sure you get exactly the right ones". Attention-seeking wife + Mr C trying to win a speed game = something very far away from marital bliss. Away with you woman! Though if you could just fix me some lunch first... ;)

But yes, I think we are (for once) in complete agreement on an issue and can therefore avoid feverishly penning 500 word 'I'm more write than you are' pieces...at least for today.

If I keep joining high level standard escalating games that I really have no right being in in the first place, I'll keep this reasoning in mind. Standard escalating (some freestyle, but that's right out now) is actually what I mostly played when I first joined CC, and my biggest ever win is one, where I killed all the other players in one round. Unfortunately, there were a lot of weak links there. There aren't a lot of weak links in the games I'm foolishly joining now.

Well, that's not entirely true, I guess. I'm a weak link, so if I managed to slip through the net...
