I don't believe for a second that Woodruff took any threats seriously. He loves drama and an opportunity has presented itself and he's going for broke.

I've voiced my concerns over cyber bullying here before. But not "I'm gonna hunt you down and blah blah blah" crap. The harmful stuff is the psychological torment that can be applied to a person.

I've seen Woodruff act passive-aggressive and he has tried to be hurtful many times. This is just the same thing, but in a bigger way. "What?? Me?!?! I was only concerned for my safety!! I wasn't trying to screw anybody over!!" Bullcrap, Woodruff. You are a vindictive person.

Fortunately, I think the authorities are going to tell him he's a nut.

Woodruff, as of late has been showing signs of cracks on his persona. Yes, even anger has come forth from this man. His stand on certain issues, changes with the wind. Is this due to some type of, well, ummm...mental illness? Has paranoia set in? I just hope to God, that his family, close friends and associates are safe from his delusions that he may have from time to time.

Has he stopped taking his medications? Stopped seeing his therapist? Has he gone down to the local Walmart and bought an arsenal of guns?

Will Chaosfactor be safe?

What will C.C. do to protect the rest of us, who have crossed paths with this potential bomb in the making?

Good post. I won't quote it all. However, 2 points.

First, I agree that if CC did not let the information get out (if they did not take sufficient security), they are not directly responsible. I won't cite any legal precedents (such as Craig's list) because the jurisdiction differs and this is an area where the law is still in flux, being changed almost continually. (the result of new technology, powers, etc.).

When I talk about forum shutdown or leven just serious curtailment, I mean that this is, as we have been told repeatedly, a gaming site. If the forums get to be too much of a bother, any business would just eliminate them. I am not privy to the data, the reasoning, etc. Right now, the forums are serving a purpose.. either just the desire of admin or, more likely, they are helping to keep this an active site. However, that balance could tip. Lawsuits, continual harrassment of mods, complaints that don't end and general bickering are certainly moving that balance closer to the tipping point.

I suspect that as yet, the "tipping point" is pretty far. However, that could change. That was my only real point.

That is also, (a point I know you realize, but maybe others don't) why I do make suggestions about clarifying rules and policies, even the occasional complaint. I do so because I want the site to stay. Not just the site, but the forums.

Well I suppose it is possible that the forums become too much work, or too much risk, but Id guess we are pretty far away from that for now. Not to say the possibility is not there.

teamcc really needs to review its staff, and maybe replace it with volunteers who look over the forums more often to check for this kind of stuff

maybe we just need to renew all of the members except for OP and lack...

I think you meant to say, if CC took reasonable precautions, they are not directly responsible.

Lawsuits, continual harrassment of mods, complaints that don't end and general bickering are certainly moving that balance closer to the tipping point...

Many of the complaints against mods that I see have to do with unequal moderating (my complaints all had to do with unequal moderating); no action taken regarding complaints, depending on who complained or who the complaint is against or if the mod who happens to be reviewing the issue just doesn't consider the issue serious enough to require a warning - which leaves ALL early discipline that might be used to curtail incidents, totally up the whim of the mod, and THAT leads to a potential (and sometimes actual) problem of "too much favoritism".

The current policy is all too frequently telling the one who issued a complaint, "ignore it or leave," - and I suspect that policy may be partly what prompted Woodruff's decision to leave. If he was told to "ignore it or leave," and the concern or threat was serious enough, that may be why he's considering legal action.

If CC had a policy that the reviewing mod WILL issue warnings for any concerns sent through the proper channels, but change the rules so that a warning is not necessarily going to result in disciplinary actions such as vacations and bans, then CC would be taking minimum reasonable precautions against whoever is doing something that caused another to complain. Any response could include something like, "Okay, (alleged perpetrator nick) a complaint was filed against you by (accuser nick). Please reduce the unwanted activity when you are around (accuser nick) so this thing doesn't escalate. Meanwhile, (accuser nick) you are asked to do what you can to minimize conflict as well. Thank you both for your cooperation."

Since any concern sent through proper channels requires a mod to respond anyway, this is not added work. It addresses rather than ignores the complaint, putting the requirements on BOTH accuser and complainer, rather than merely whoever complained (whereas the most common current response: "use ignore/foelist" targets the accuser as the only one who must make changes to make the site fun).

If problems continue, mods might consider that further action beyond mere warnings COULD be needed; or they might consider slightly stronger warnings.

If expressing my concerns with site moderation is considered, "hassling mods," so be it. I guess in that case, any members concerned with what I've said should just, "ignore it or leave."

I still wonder, sometimes, why it's NOT okay for me to complain or just state what changes I think are needed, and why; but it's okay for others to NASTILY bait and flame me for daring to make the complaints - complaints that began when I continually experienced some nasty baiting, flaming, and threats.

p.s. I don't think replacing mods is warranted or even beneficial; I just think the site should put the onus to make changes on the original harasser rather than only the original offended member

Scene:- A hot summers day, in a Ghetto in Brixton, Sarf London.

"Chaosfactor, this is the Canadian Mounted Police, we have got you surrounded, come out with your hands in the air, resistance is futile!"

Reggae sounds float through the air whilst stoned Rastamen look upon the brigade of light cavalry with red eyed amusement.

"Its no good hiding behind your curtains chaosfactor, we have come a long way after queuing for hours in the British consulate to apply for visas, and we have spent absorbent amounts of Canadian dollars flying these parachute drop trained horses over, we know exactly what we are doing".

........

Mountie private :- "Sir, Permission to report Sir!"

Mountie sergeant :- "Make your report private"

Mountie private :-"I Have have returned with intelligence after bribing that native over yonder (points to a rastafarian emerging from a bottle shop with a six pack), and he has told us that the house we have surrounded is not chaosfactors house, it is in fact a church!"

Mountie sergeant :- "Good lord above, Chaos cannot live there for he is the antichrist, did you find out where the devil he may be?"

Mountie private :- "Apparently sir he is thought to be located in one of the nearby pubs"

Mountie lieutenant :- "Good work soldier, I will take over from here. Have an imaginary medal to pin on your lapels, and please could you remove that plastic English policeman's hat from your head"

Mountie private :- "But Sir..."

Mountie lieutenant :- "No buts, remove it, and find a parking spot for our horses, we shall take it on foot from now on, because I am sure this scaly wag cannot be too far away, I mean how many bars can there be in this backwater anyhow?

Mountie Sergeant :- "I can see 10 from where I am standing Sir"

Mountie lieutenant :- "O.K its obviously a process of elimination then, I suggest we split up and try to blend in with our surroundings, and try to appease the locals by buying them drinks for information, off you go chaps, and remember to blend in"

-The Prince Albert-

Mountie Private 1 :- "Good day to you Mam, I would like a refreshing drink please"

English barmaid :- "Are you lost huney"

Mountie private 1 :- "Not so much lost, no, why"

English barmaid :- "The fancy dress party is in the Vauxhall tavern down the road where a cover band are playing village people songs all night, here have a pint of fortified cider".

-The Dog-star-

Mountie Private 2 :- "Hello good sir, one of your vitalizing English beverages please, and I wonder if you could tell me the amount of pubs there are in the nearby area?"

Russian Barman :- "Did your girl friend dress you comrade? Ze number of bars in Lambeth amounts to 276, and here is a Legless Leningrad Cock Killer".

-The Fridge Bar- "

Canadian Ninja Lawyer :- "I am hereby appointed by the government of conquer club to find out any information about the famed Woodruff shotgun massacre, that could lead to the arrest of a subject known in alias as chaosfactor, can you, or any of your parties that inhabit this licensed dwelling , supply me first with a large gin and tonic, and possible directions to the nearest imaginary shotgun store?"

Transvestite prostitute :- "Mmmm hunney bunny, I heard a little bird tell me that Canadian boys are endowed with extra small penis's, making them perfect fodder for the transgender process, would you like me to enlighten you a little bit, little one?"

The Hobgoblin

Conquer club moderator representative :- "Greetings worthless being, take these imaginary internet charms and give me a lemonade pronto before I cut off the electricity to this establishment"

Sulky bar wench :- "If your looking for the star trek convention, you missed it by one year and a fortnight, and for your information this bar runs on solar power, wind turbines and ganja, so good luck in turning our strobes off matey boy. Lemonade is also a no-no, we only serve alcohol in this joint and for this we require cold hard cash, not some of your see-through internet kudos".

Conquer club moderator representative :- "Was that a flame? You know there are laws against this kind of behavior".

Sulky Barmaid :- "Perhaps you would like to swop your imaginary made up charms, for this imaginary sawn off shotgun sir? I got it cheap from a desperate looking chap just the other day"

Conquer club moderator representative :- "Golly does it work?"

Sulky Barmaid :- "Only in your imagination my friend, here take it, along with 16 rounds of imaginary ammunition, along with this non imaginary pint of reinforced brake fluid"

-Meanwhile 6 hours later back on Cold Harbour lane-

Mountie Lieutenant :- "Sergeant over here if you please"

Mountie Sergeant :- "Hic,Yhas Sirr"

Mountie Lieutenant :- "A progress report would be enlightening, pray tell, what news from our esteemed battalion?"

Mountie Sergeant :- "Well sir, it appears three of our chaps have been arrested for having a drunken brawl. One dozen horses have been wheel clamped, and the rest have been towed by Lambeth council, 4 of our NCO's have contracted Herpes from the yonder brothel, six of our finest veterans are in Kings hospital having there stomachs pumped, 7 more were last seen mooning the queen outside buckingham palace, 12 have deserted and have joined the climate change protest, 3 boarded flights for a rave in Ibiza, 9 set off to middle earth in an effort to arrest sauron, and the remaining 2 are pretending to be traffic cops over by all the car wrecks just there sir".

Mountie Lieutenant :- "I see... and chaosfactor?"

Mountie Sergeant :- "We are doing all we can, at the moment Sir".

Mountie Lieutenant :- "I see, how many of us are there left?"

Mountie Sergeant :- "Just us Sir"

Mountie Lieutenant :- "Any suggestions Sergeant?"

Mountie Sergeant :- "Split up Sir?"

Chaos, its ROYAL Canadian Mounted Police, thus the RCMP, and they don't have privates, they have constables.

Please do your research, we don't take kindly to Brits maligning our RCMP, otherwise the rest of the article is fine except for a few spelling errors.

Carry on.

In 1904: King Edward VII granted them the prefix 'Royal' and so the force then became known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Before 1904 they were simply known as the Canadian Mounted Police.

I referred to them as Privates, Sergeants and Lieutenants, because I was drawing a comparison based on the ranking system in this game. If I mentioned constables they would have been confused with the moderators on this site.

If you didn't like us Brits maligning them in the first place, why agree to them being called Royal in the first place?

As soon as you work back every Queen's birthday you've had off. And re-name Regina - and PEI. And give back your medals from the commonwealth games. And start speaking French. Don't you have a toque to be wearing, eh?

I left my toque on the wood stove to dry last week and it melted. I'll have to knit a new one eh.

We would but your resources get mixed up with all that other stuff coming from India etc, there's just no way we can separate it out now. If you want we can send Liz over for a pep talk again, though. You do have some great comedians, could you send some over?
