Knowing how lobbyists are in America, they will probably sue the f*ck outta those poor bastards if they don't take their classics down

uh...lobbyists don't sue people. Lawyers do.

and I am sure Hasbro is aware of all these Risk clones out there, and doesn't give a rats ass, or a lawyers fee.

It may be terms of their copyright; their copyright may be to the board game, exclusive of electronic versions.

Did some checking; after a problem in 2008 where Hasbro sued some online scrabble site to protect its copyright, apparently Hasbro got into electric gaming and renewed copyrights protect electronics.

Interestingly, the company created a few versions of the risk map, including a 'black ops' version. Same attack patterns but the look is totally different, which lends credibility to the idea that the pattern, not just the map, could be copyrighted.

hmm,im just looking this site.
They have large number of maps, but its in very low quality. Also they dont have forum, and this is big minus.
One map its not so bad, have very good graphic-The Scuttlers of Manchester
One thing what i dont like is map size, its to small.

While we're on the topic of hasbro, I have a question. Did hasbro ever actually threaten to sue CC, or even notice the site. Or did they change the classic map as a preemptive measure.

Guessing here.. probably pre-emptive, once it was known that Hasbro/Parker Bros was targeting e-sites that capitalized on their games. Scrabulous is the site they sued, over Scrabble copywrite, summer 2008.

while I don't want cc to be sued... I am going to ask hasbro exactly what is the fine line. I would really like to see a new classic pushed as far as it can go 8-[

I think someone already said this. I think that if hasbro really wanted to be pricks they could probably sue CC for classic art, or even just for the game overall. We roll 3 dice vs 2, can fort armies at the end of turn, all this is risk. You can't roll dice or fort armies in stratego or chess, then entire site is still risk based. Although we have added on to it here (bombardments, fog, etc), but at the core its still risk.

lol, have fun with that. Perhaps you can ask the Hasbro lawyers for a brief on how to clone Risk and get away with it. I am sure they would be more than willing to help you.

The way it works in the real word is this. A company doesn't need any merit to its claim in order to sue someone else. Lackattack could sue Hasbro if he wanted too. But to engage in the legal process, even fighting totally baseless lawsuits is an expensive option, and one that smart business owners try to avoid. Moral of the story, don't piss off the gods unless you can afford a human sacrifice.

I agree that Hasbro could probably sue over arts, the attack pattern, etc... but not the dicerolls and forts. There are many wargames where dice and forting are used, that look nothing like Risk. Some of the WWII maps on here seem closest in play to those other types of wargames, whose boards typically consist of octagonal position markers to represent troops in some specific battle.

That the type of play is so similar regardless of which wargame is being played is probably why CC hoped that changing the map would make it less obvious that the map represented a 'risk clone' rather than some other similarly played wargame.
