I think the general rule is, use dry wit to insult others if you feel the urge, just dont use comments on a person's ethinicity, sexual preference, gender, or sig size to make people feel bad. It's a pretty simple rule, yet so many people break it and then complain. Anybody can call someone Black or gay, but it takes a truely witty person to come up with an insult that is worth a little more.

Feel free to flame me about this post, but remember, I have done nothing to you.

I'm sure andy appreciates your efforts to detour things down the yellow brick road (was that dry enough, or should i couch it in euphemisms?), but "in general" only applies to you if you stay on the good side of the mods and the admin. "In general", one would not be given a 30 day ban for telling someone they had their panties in a wad now would they?

So what you're trying to get us to ignore (or at least not talk about) is that in general they'll ban who they want to ban and pamper who they want to pamper.

actually, bk, I agree with you. Panties in a wad is not thirty day ban material, as I stated in another thread. I also agree that if you kiss up to the mods, they'll give you a break more often, and tar if you piss them off, they will brand you with an iron for the rest of your cc days.

However... most bans and punishments are given out fairly, And complaining and posting threads like these will not help the cause.

Again...

I disagree with both points. First of all i don't believe that most bans and punishments are given out fairly. I believe that most bans are given out unfairly, which is why the mods won't make them public. This bullshit about "privacy" is a hoot - it's the admins privacy that they're worried about, not ours. They can abuse their authority a lot easier if we can't see them doing it most of the time, amirite?

Secondly, threads like this will help the cause because they let the admins and the membership at large know there's a problem. Many people have been leaving here over this bullshit and some have never come here because of what is now going over the internet about how things are run here. CC's membership has been dropping steadily when it should be growing for a while now. How the hell do you think we stopped the Viet Nam War?

Hello jefjef,

You have received a formal disciplinary warning.

Issued by: AndyDufresne

Comment:

Ahoy Jefjef,

It seems you've recently engaged in some Flaming, RE: your post

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=94192#p2158734

Since you do not have any history of Minor Infractions, as outlined in the Community Guidelines, this is just a Warning and a nudge in the right direction. :)

I started this thread for a little fun and most everyone has has posted in it in that same spirit. But I also started it with this warning in mind. I do not feel the warned topic was a flame. I mentioned a couple names in re of harsh chat. As one mod has publicly stated it is not a flame if TRUE. This is where ASSCLOWN was not allowed. You be the judge..........

Abuse? You want abuse play codeblue or demonfork. Suck it up ASSCLOWN.. It's called a foe & bad rating. He'll get a warning for secret diplomacy.

Since I'm not literate enough to make a link here is what I was warned for. I guess if I had said "Suck it up cupcake" it would have been ok. Is not ASSCLOWN & CUPCAKE the same in intent?

Assclown has been deemed inappropriate as bigotry toward Republicans. You can't use the n word because African Americans have suffered greatly by it. You can't use "assclown" as during the Bush administration many many Republicans suffered because of this much used term. Just as you think of a negative image of a black person when someone uses the n word, i think of Republicans when someone says "assclown".

I think of Democrats when someone says "shitforbrains" or "dillweed", but those terms haven't caused Democrats enough mental and emotional anguish to qualify as stereotypical racial epithets as yet.

Well unfortunately the individual my comment pertained to did not hit me as being a republican. But I spose Andy might be. I'm surprised how eerily silent mods have been in re of this thread. HUH. Imagine that...........

Many words have the same intent, but that does not make them equally inappropriate almost ever. More importantly, individual words mean nothing without context, so posting them individually, is really meaningless as information in a thread like this mostly. Its entertaining of course, and reminds me of the late George Carlin's brilliant piece on the censored words in television programming.

As a side not about words, One of my more memorable moments, was in college, when discussing the use of words, and their use, in a "writing for business" class. The discussion was more or less along the same lines as this one, and the different uses and impacts of words. It was very fun to hear the professor, discuss the singularly usefulness of the word "f***" and how there really is no word that really means the same, or has the same impact. It identifies the underlying usefulness of language itself, and the meaning of message, and how people react to them and understand them.

In the end, the mods are not here, because the answer to the question was answered before it was asked for any reasonable person.

It is against the forum rules to openly flame another player in the forum. That is why people get banned, not necessarily because of any one individual word. :D

I feel like a complete zilldoit after typing out this much. Though, in this case, that could be an insult to the actual zilldoits... it really isnt their fault they are how they are. I will show them more respect in the future.

The origins of words is actually interesting too. While at this point, we learn them so early in our development, that we never really have to question why they mean what they mean, but many of them started off as an emotional allocation to a stimuli of some kind. Through the ages, they got written down and simply became accepted. I think perhaps the reason why profanity is such a fun avenue to discuss, is really because it is one area of language that is constantly evolving. New words actually get used in this area, all with a different message, and certainly with a different emotional response. The internet creates some new words and lingo obviously too, but I for one hardly find it as interesting.

Long story short, using assclown and cupcake, or even butterfly or the word flower, can all be used with the same intent, but again, that does not mean that one, is not worse than the other. Alone they are actually fairly benign, but really, I dont think there is truly anyone here, that can actually read this forum, that really believes any two words are equal, and more importantly, that they come to represent completely different things depending upon which other buddies that they bring to their little party of a phrase, or sentence...or even sometimes a paragraph...or two.

If you still arent convinced, I could probably write a book about flowers. Perhaps there is not a word that represents beauty, or the origins of life better. The plant on a basic level is used as a gift at some of the more emotional times in peoples lives, and each one carries its own meaning. It is perhaps one of the least threatening words in the english language. However, I am almost positive, I could use it in a sentence without other profanity, and get warned for it at the very least. This wont ever mean that the word flower cant be used in the forum...but only how it is used will be important.

Even better, I believe I could make up a word, and manage to break the forum rules. Im almost positive I could string some letters together that arent really a word, and still be guilty of breaking the guidelines: Zilldoit. It may exist, but I could easily go too far using this word to justify a ban. And as far as I know, it doesnt exist...though im not completely sure I trust that good search engine.

After thinking about this a little more, I actually think it might be easier to find words that can be used no matter what, than find ones that cant be used to break the guidelines. It certainly is not as challenging to find seemingly innocent words, and conjure a way to make them bannable when used inappropriately.

I feel like a complete zilldoit after typing this much. Though I suppose this isnt fair to zilldoits. It isnt their fault they are how they are. I will try to treat them with more respect in the future.

Oh my God! A.A.Fitz has gone sooooooo off-topic. My GOD! see how he starts talking about his College days and how he explaines the complexities of the English language and the daily use of the words used in conjuncture of blahs, blahs, blahs and on top of more blahs.

Again, I beeseeeeeech A.A.Fitz, why the FOOK [from the mouth of B.K.Barunt] do you write so much blahs, blahs and more blahs about subjects that don't relate to the thread. Why do you have to feel that you have to brag about your "higher" education? Are you afraid otherwise you'd not be taken seriously?

Is this ALL ABOUT YOU? It's very apparent that you have taken on being the "leader" of all posters who oppose those "serial killers" of C.C. character and goodwill.

You mean well....I guess......but all this bragging about how much command you have of the English language is ...well....... self-inflated. Does this knowledge, that you supposedly have....give you secret-powers? You know the kind, that makes you feel superior to others. You know the kind, "US against THEM" mentality.

Of course, you do have such a civility to you, that it makes it almost impossible to want to FLAME YOU. No sir, it makes me write silly posts about silly posters like well..........hey, I'll let you fill in the blank, since you have superior skills of intellect.

My post of course could not be more on topic. It could be shorter, but not more on topic. There might be too many examples. Its possible.

Of course, my post is all about words, and which ones may or may not be ok in forums and game chats....yours is about some guess as to my disposition, and intent as I conjure up these... posts. Now that has absolutely nothing to do with what words are ok for CC, and is purely off topic.

But since you seem so dedicated to psychoanalyzing me, I will help you out, with the aspect that you seem to miss. I actually do have a sense of humor, and if something is over the top, especially where I am concerned, it probably isnt lost on me. You do seem to enjoy making fun of my posts, but I assure you, there is no one that enjoys doing it more than me. Im laughing at the ridiculousness of it as we speak. I just feel bad that by now this isnt obvious to you.

I mean, you keep going around posting that my posts are too long, that they are repetitive, that they are repetitive, and that I am all high and mighty or something....I mean, just to save you some time from now on...and to help you not go off topic every time I post...

No Kidding. :D

AAFitz, it's very apparent that you love yourself and actually thinks your a comedian.

Humorous, tee-hee, do you ever read your long repetitive [yes it does act like a sleeping pill] posts? Do you really laugh to yourself? Are you that easily amused. Do you clap with your flippers and bang your head against the wall, until the nurses restrain you?

Now back on topic,

Words that start with an "A" sounding word should be a red flag!

Fuch has many meanings. As in "fuch this" - "fuchin dice" - "fuch me" - "what the fuch" - "what the fuch was that" - "where the fuch are we?" - "where the fuch are you?" - "who the fuch are you?" - "get the fuch off my back!" - "get out of my fuchin face!" and the famous "fuch off & die mother fucher" & "fuch you!". The last two of these examples would be a personal attack. None of the others. So is "fuch" allowed? Has been thus far in relation to how it's applied.

Its really repetitive to call my posts repetitive, repetitively...

and the nurses wont restrain me... unless I pay them extra.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk

Its more of a response than off topic, and im sure I could do something with nurses and restraining to get banned...or band...or bawnd...or whatever the cool kids are calling it these days. and what does WTF mean?

Wuv the fitz? They have the coolest things on the internet these days.

STMYFF... now that phrase would get banded fur shur. I made that one up too. Its a great response in the right context.
