Bad dice vs Bad drop.

Postby captainwalrus on Mon Sep 07, 2009 4:56 pm

What has more of an effect. I rarely think that I lost simply because of bad dice, but often times I am at a severe disadvantage because of the drop.
I am not complaining, because I have no doubt that it is far, but I also think the dice are fair, and may people complain. I wonder why dice often take the heat, but the drop is never blamed for people's losses.

Which do you think contributes more to whether you win or lose, the dice or the drop?
Skill is not an option in this poll!

I think that good strategy (and good dice) can often overcome a bad drop, but no amount of strategy can overcome bad dice.

I'm assuming this is 1v1 you are talking about.

In 1v1, there are 4 luck-based elements in the game:
1. Dice
2. Drop
3. First Move
4. Cards

All of them have various impacts depending on the map and settings. Some maps are good for 1v1 because they have a higher chance of each player having a fair drop, and don't give the first player a substantial advantage. City Mogul reduces the impact of dice in the game, and the luck of the cards vary depending on the card settings.

Basically, the effect depends on the map and settings. None of them are all-powerful across all maps and settings.

I think I can point out more games that I won or lost because of the drop than I can point out games that were decided by dice, but that might be just cause I don't remember my bad dice as much as some people do.

Bad dice is the worst.

If you a have a bad drop, you can overcome it if the dice aren't bad. (and bad both is a game lost for you)

But no good drop can protect you from bad dice.

Of course, if you play like a cow (no offense meant to any cows), good drops or dice aside, you won't win.

You say you don't mean it as offense, but I just couldn't quite ignore this comment.
Get 3 non-cow teammates, and I'll put a team of Cows together. See who wins ;)

depends what kind of game you're talking about.

in singles games of 5-8 people - id rather not have a good drop because everyone is going to attack you. a good drop is probably worse than a bad one. and in these games you can recover from bad dice early in the game.

id rather have a bad drop than bad dice in any situation except in 1x1 it would be very close

the dice becuase if you get a bad drop then you could take a bounus and then go and eliminate the person but if you have bad dice then you cant eleminate the person and then you lose the game

Dice, Dice, Dice. Even though I may have a drop that isn't as well off as someone else, I usually feel like it isn't a complete detriment...unlike some dice rolling which just seems to squash my hopes.

I figure someone would come in and say something.

And I refuse.
I don't wanna play against cows.

Besides, I have the playing ability of a horse, so I'm clearly at a disadvantage here.
