map of asia

Postby Lucky6 on Fri Sep 11, 2009 8:32 am

korea is not a territory of japan. i dont understand how nkorea and skorea fall under the bonus territory named japan. i'm afraid this may lead to a misunderstading of history for CC users. yes korea was indeed occupied by japan for years during WWII but so were big chunks of china and oceania, including philippines. At time of u.s.s.r., the two koreas were independent.

the bonus cound've been called KOREA

oh well thx for reading

For the purpose of gameplay, things are stretched/changed/altered in all sorts of maps. The Africa map is a good example---the area that should be Togo is actually a part of Ghana, Rwanda and Burundi are a part of Uganda---etc, all for gameplay purposes.

World 2.1 is an even better example of areas being lumped/grouped together for gameplay reasons.

The Cartographers and those that participated in the Foundry Process, didn't have any motives of trying to skew history---they just wanted to make a fun and playable map! :)

i'd be more concerned with all the poor spelling by our jr. members on the site, more so than for their grasp of history. i don't even think they teach history in schools anymore!! and as the funky monkey said:

so just try to enjoy the maps and don't scrutinize over the history of the thing...-0

I believe that japan occupied korea some time before that. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be, didn't look it up), the russo japannese war was fought in korea.

And just as alexanders empire has the middle east and parts of africa even though they haven't been part of his empire for 2,300 years, its also ok to have a map of asia that does not match the 21st century borders.

If you called it KOREA would it be historically correct or fair to JAPAN? Maybe they should call it KORPAN or JAPREA. That wouldn't be confusing.

The asia map was one of the original maps on CC and while it has some geographical-issues (not that I'm suggesting that 'issues' neccessarily mean that its bad), those changes were made to expedite gameplay over realism. While Lucky6 might believe that realism is of paramount importance (and I respect that view) the CC Foundry believes that some geographical inconsistancies are inevitable in the pursuit of the 'ultimate gameplay', which has, as we all know, been a core aim of the CC experience.

Here to serve,

Mr (bland is best!) C
