For those of you brave enough to continue... good morning! (or evening depending on your location and degree of sobriety)…. I am Katryana (a fake name of course but that's another story)…
As a relatively new and increasingly obnoxious member of Conquer Club, I decided to delve into the exciting world of tourneys. (Let me translate for those who may not get my bizarre ways… I’m a newbie who realized she wasn’t very good at the games so decided upon another way to annoy and amuse the denizens of the Conquer Club universe).
In other words, dear friends, foes and befuddled bystanders, I have taken it upon myself to interview one of Conquer Club’s premier Tournament Masters… You may at this point be wondering how I decided whom would be the ideal candidate for my interview. Well, wonder no more. I spent weeks (okay ten minutes or so) sifting through the millions (Note the tendency for exaggeration? Don‘t count on it to change) of prospects, weighing their pros, cons, and general effectiveness as tournament hosts. After much careful consideration (and one well tossed dart) I found my victim… I mean interviewee…
Ladies and Gentlemen (and squirrels and monkeys and other creatures to be named later) I give you ….
An Interview with HighlanderAttack!
Highlander was kind enough to sit down with me for a few minutes (no, really… he was a willing participant… no handcuffs, straight jackets or other bondage material …. errr… ummm… no restraints required).
Although I had to get him to move a HUGE stack of medals out of the way before we could begin, I was impressed with how quickly he responded. (Maybe it had something to do with wanting to get away from me as quickly as possible?)
I asked him all the pertinent questions (see below for the transcript)
Kat: Do you have a basic format you use?
HA: For the most part, I do use a basic format with the things that do not change from tourney to tourney.
For example my rules don't change like you have 48 hours to join your game. Map and setting set up, players, an update section.
Kat: How much time is involved in hosting a tournament?
HA: Time involved ranges. If there is more detail, or more players, and depending on what actual format is used, some tournaments can take a bit of time to do. As you start making them you use systems to that become second nature.
Here is an example-a lot of the same things are in each one of my tourneys I run.

Innocent Bystander: I like that setup, very simple and straightforward.
Kat: What in your opinion are the biggest problems you come across in hosting a tournament?
HA: Two things:
People that join the wrong games is the biggest problem. They don't read and just join whatever instead of following directions. I try to make it easy with auto join games and I give simple instructions. They just decide to join without paying attention
The time to run the tourney would be number one. I have too much going on and sometimes don't get to running the tourney in a timely manner in my opinion.
Kat: How many players/games would you recommend for someone just starting out hosting tournaments?
HA: Start off light with a 16 player 1v1 so four rounds of games or a multi player 36 players but 6 games and 1 final game. Just to get used to it.
Kat: What are some of the rewards of hosting? (Besides of course fame and adoration of your tourney fans)
HA: You are given a medal. For me it is the fun I get from running and organizing. I have always done it. It is in my blood.
Kat: Any final words of advice or comments you'd like to share?
HA: I definitely think someone should play in a tourney before they organize.
Utilize others that have run tourneys and check out their format.
Read the guide book as it answers a lot of questions.
Take your time so you don't make mistakes.
Be fair-try to perceive any issues and have rules that will take care of any issue that comes up in your thread.
(Okay guys cut the camera.... What do you mean you left the lens cap on?)
The interview would have gone longer, but Highlander was overrun by a mob of eager tourney members anxious for the next tournament to start… I’d like to thank him for his time, patience and willingness to be a guinea pig. Please be sure to check out some of his tourneys because I understand he really is very good at hosting them.
For those of you who enjoyed the interview, let me know who YOU want me to ambush … I mean interview next.
For those of you who DIDN’T enjoy it… What can I say? You could have stopped reading at the warning.
