Forbidden City - Help!

I have played this map a number of times, maybe ten games or so, and while it may sound stupid, I cannot for the life of me figure out what territories do and do not connect.

I don't have specific questions at this time, I just feel like I am missing something in the map legend that would enable me to figure this out. I am talking generally about territories around the perimeter - i.e., the countries up top, the outsiders along the side, and the emperors along the bottom. For example, I'm pretty sure Emp Chung Chen can see Imperial Army, but not anything else along the left border. Only reason I know that is because I owned Emp Chung Chen earlier in the game and made a note to myself to that effect - otherwise, I'd never be able to figure it out from this crazy map. What am I missing?

I am about to try and take out a player or tow, but I am afraid I am going to deploy incorrectly assuming that such-and-such a territory reaches one of my targets, only to find out after deploying that I was mistaken - done it before several times on this map.

I was the exact same until my last game or two on this map. Count the number of border indicators between any two territories, if you get more than one then they don't connect.

In your example Emp Chung Chen has one indicator between it and imperial army along the green line therfore they connect however between Emp Chung chen and Li Tzu-Cheng there are 3 indicators so they are not connected. Just count before every move and eventually you will learn it. Also remember that any territory bordering the yellow line through the middle connects to the emporers, it took me a good while to work out Cheng and yo were connected.

Also if you get BOB then it shows you which territs border each other which would make life a lot simpler.
