Map Foundry Wars

Postby jefjef on Sat Nov 07, 2009 8:31 am

Hi all!

I like to stop in every now and then and visit map foundry. Check out what those with vision, talent and time have in store for OUR enjoyment.

We are allowed to view and even post our ideas/concerns. They appreciate the help. The more eyes on something the more is seen. The more visions offered the more improvement. The more enjoyment for us.

I have heard some complain that "they don't listen". Sure they do. If they aren't attacked. If it isn't personal. Sure a couple of em are arrogant and have a big ego. OK.

Bottom line is it's their work. It is their effort. If their effort ends up not being good enough they wasted all their time.

With that said Map Foundry is on the verge of becoming Flame Foundry.

WTF. Personal biased attacks. Hijacked projects. Threads locked because of it. Some of you really should hang your heads. GROW THE f*ck UP.

Map makers. Yes it's your projects but some of you can get away from your tunnel vision a bit more. WAKE THE f*ck UP.

Take a look at the locked JAMAICAmon thread in Map Ideas. Take a peak in 1812 Napoleonic wars. Lets also remember Fractured America. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Let's SUPPORT our Map Makers - not attack them. Map makers open your minds - most of us post to HELP YOU.

I've spent time in the foundry developing a map and have noticed that the feedback I've received has been very good so far. If the map maker does not listen at all (which appears to be happening in some cases), then the thread fails quite quickly. I'm on the other end right now and I'm not getting enough comments....lol. Maybe I'm moving slower than people expect, but I've found that the foundry process is good, albeit has a slow feel to it. I think quality really shows in many of our current maps.

I noticed the same when I first started making my map, but when I just stubbornly kept updating the map people slowly started to get interested and comment more often.

I think it has to do with being a new mapmaker, people first want to see if you have the dedication to follow through on your map development.

My advice is, just keep churning out those updates, and people will get with the program eventually. :)

About the topic, there seems to be blame in both parties IMO. In the recent case of the locked jamaica map, both the mapmaker and the commentators should have been more civil to each other. Flaming is counterproductive.

But locking down the whole foundry, even temporarily, like some suggest, is not the solution here. Sure, some people have caused trouble/flaming in the foundry, but why should all the other mapmakers be punished because of that?

Qwert personally drove me out of the Foundry, to be honest. Talk about someone taking EVERYTHING TOO PERSONALLY. Geez.

You should come back. Aim belief he left.

As for this, if you aren't stubborn, people like you. When you become stubborn, people dislike you. Simple as.

Oh, I'm certainly stubborn. BUT GOSH DARN IT, PEOPLE LIKE ME! <laughing>

I might...I don't know...my "Qwert experience" has definitely tainted the Foundry for me in a lot of ways. But thanks for the suggestion...maybe I will sometime.

I think the foundry should make a map of CC forums. Then they could reference that when they want to start a foundry thread. It might help them put it in the right forum....

Qwert has good points but his lack of english and his lack of awareness need to be taken with a grain of salt. Here is a gem from this morning:

Make it yourself! "The foundry" doesn't make maps, people make maps in the foundry.

His English usage doesn't bother me at all - he tries hard in that respect, and I like that. But he's about as defensive as a person can get about "his way" with his maps. He's a TREMENDOUS mapmaker - my favorite on the site (or was...he's apparently retired himself)...but I've thoroughly given up on trying to help him with suggestions because of the way he reacts to them. And I'm not at all inflammatory about how I've approached him.

Granted, some map makers should learn to take criticism to their maps a bit more constructively. After all no map gets done without constructive criticism and feedback. But most mapmakers in the foundry are very nice and cooperative when it comes to feedback. Therefore we shouldn't punish the whole foundry for the actions of a few.

The general popuation should visit the foundry more often, there are lots of great maps being worked on atm. Now's the time to influence the development of these maps.

Qwert personally drove me out of the Foundry, to be honest. Talk about someone taking EVERYTHING TOO PERSONALLY. Geez.

WTF(tranlation-western task force). Im drove you out of foundry? are you serious?
One time i whas in bad relations with you and we solve this frendly, but this is insult for me,because this is not true. You want to be honest, but you are not.
I leave Map foundry, because after 3 years of creating a maps, i become to sick,of to much ilogical sugestion, and delaying of all mine maps, become to much iritating and annoying for me,and i had two option-arguing,or to leave map foundry.
Leaving map foundry whas full score for me-no more constantly explanation, why is something good, and why is something bad for map,and i dont need to losing nerves.
Now After 7 month,i get messages from other new Map Makers, who is not pleased how Map foundry works, and i dont have any influence on this people, because i dont have any contact with other new map makers. Also many new map makers want to create map with me, but i polite refuse, because now for one map,you need to spend 1 years, and this is hilarious.
Like Killing say,im of map foundry, and you can free to post what you want, and i will not stop you, because i never do that.

I'm not honest? So you know better than I do why I no longer hang out in the Foundry?

Because I kept thinking you'd have the integrity to get your last map (Peloponnesian Wars) out of Beta instead of leaving it there to die. If you'll look, that's where all of my last few post in the Foundry were.
