Dealing with randoms joining public speed games

Postby Sebastian4141 on Tue Nov 10, 2009 2:58 am

Hey folks,

Question - how do people who start speed games deal with random cooks, cadets, etc, who suicide and deadbeat? A loss to a cadet costs more rank two wins gains, so it's a doubly bad situation. Do people just limit play to clans, callouts, and friends? I'd be happy to play against the field, meet some people, and have some good games, but two cadets and then one suicides you kinda sucks. Scratch that, it really sucks. Thanks for input,

Short answer; Dont start public speed games.
Instead create private one's and invite people. ofcourse this give you very little trafic but its the best you can do.
Also consider this. the top, the middle and the bottom have VERY different playstyles. I have played a lot of ranks and i can say i am still sometimes surprised. But to the one a suicide is a last ditch effort and to the other he suicides in turn one and complains about bad dice.. And sometimes there is just a good strategy behind it and it turns out it was not a suicide but planned action, and its working......
When someone suicides into you, at least you are precieved as the game winner, or just plain annoying guy... Either way deal with it. maybe even expect it and plan accordingly.

I only play speed to get my medal, so i pick someone new to fight every time, but this way i get to play over 400 different people and thats its own reward...

good luck

Most higher ranked players will not join public mutliplayer standard games (or terminator) because of this very reason. You can't control how other people play around you and sometimes players will be very stupid. Those that do play these style of games are good enough to realize that sometimes they have to play to the emotions of players that aren't very smart and just try to make sure strategically or diplomatically they aren't the victim of their stupid play. Works out great if you can channelize that player towards someone else

I did the playing speed games to get a medal thing - and although you will win more than you lose 1v1 against Cooks unless you set the game to something like New World, Age of Merchants, Feudal War, or Age of Realms you will still probably lose points playing them...I was going for the Speed medal and the Cross Map Medals so I lost more points than you might just going for Speed Medals. There aren't enough officers to play only them to get the medals if you want to get them quickly.

My advice is if you care about points/rank don't play Speed, but if you have to if you play on one of the Maps I mentioned your skill will help more than on some of the others. Public Speed, Terminator, Singles, to some extent Doubles, and especially Assasin games are point users.

You might be a great player but if you play a map specialist on something like Battle for Iraq - expect to lose - and if you start the game you may be up against a specialist. UglyMoose beat me like a rented mule on that map when I was learning it.

If you want medals go after them early and get rank/points later.
