Naw, I live two houses from the school (which might give you an indication as to why I am taking the threat against both myself and my students so seriously). So I was home for lunch.

Ardennes doesn't require skill, I wouldn't say. I mean, you just have to look at the map and pay attention before you move, maybe a little bit more than most maps.

I'd say Waterloo. In each game you have to analyze the drop and find a careful balance between bombarding and attacking. The settings, of course, can completely change that balance, but that also gives the map versatility and different ways to "master" the map.

nothing is too complex or too big once u learn it, play waterloo in 10 games with different styles and it will be like classic, and then it all comes down to dice, drop, who goes first .........

That goes for all maps made, and not made.

this was answered already!

a map that is not str8 forward, has some complexity but balance to it, coupled with multiple ways of strategy on winning, not a lot of maps can do that. I think aom, iraq, waterloo are probably the top 3, but ardennes is not far behind.

over 100 maps out there and maybe a handful has all these components.

also, when players are choosing other? what maps are you referring too?

Perhaps I could offer an alternative definition. A skilled map is a map on which the more skilled player wins the highest percentage of the time. Example: Map with very little skill, better player wins 52% of the time; Map with more skill, better player wins 75% of the time, very skilled map, better player wins 90% of the time.

So what I'm suggesting is that games on a skilled map are more often decided by skill and less often decided by luck.

Btw, I just want to make this point, just because I'm giving this definition, does not mean that I think that Iraq or waterloo is necessarily more skilled than classic. But I do believe that this is what others are suggesting by voting for any of these maps.

I will not delve into this deeply, suffice it to say that I think that if Iraq was the first map, and classic had just come out that people might be making the argument the other way round.

Not to belabor my point above, but I think that it is similar to comparing the new wild-cat in football, to the old i-formation. Wild cat may not necessarily be better, people just aren't that familiar with it yet. (i.e. Newer does not equal more skilled)

Third crusade will probably be a contender though perhaps thats only because I played it 3 times so far.

World really isnt a complicated map. Its straightforward, and easy to figure out, even at first glance.

It does require careful strategy though and its big enough to trump luck over time. Even on sequential I keep 75% win rate on 1v1, 80% on doubles, which ive played hundreds, and trips and quads at 80%+ with much fewer games. (Though I had won my first 34 out of 35 trips games on world :D I dont mind playing it so much expressly because it is not a complicated map...Its just a big classic map, with very similar play...It just sometimes requires a complicated strategy...or more precisely... a simple one, that needs to be executed perfectly. Over time the better player simply wins more, because its size discounts one turn or going first as the only reason for winning.

One mistake on one fort, or one attack, or lack of attack if you will, can be the game. It sits on a seesaw from turn one...and once you tip it one way...it gets easier and easier to keep it going that way. I like it mostly because it is somewhat underestimated...and when I first started playing it alot..took full advantage of this. Now nearly every team plays it the same way, but it was not always that way. I actually found it hard to convince even some of the best team players on the site to play it the way I did...and after many, many wins... most agree. Not to say many didn't get there on their own. :D

Doodle came out after classic... Does that make classic easier than doodle? Maybe on your first 10 games, but after that, it doesnt take much to understand doodle... it actually is so small that it actually has its own strategy...but typically the dice or drop will decide it between almost any two players that have any idea how to play...classic can much more easily be stolen from someone who isnt quite as familiar with it.

I believe Iraq is without a doubt more complicated on a basic level, as are the other ones. Without a doubt exposure makes it easier...but never changes its basic dificulty level...though obviously that is somewhat subjective too.
