I'm curious as to what you mean by this, in addition to what you base this on. I mean in this sense: how is this judged? Do you judge this by the number of community/Team CC attacking topics in the GD versus "normal" topics in the GD? Is that your scale? If that is the case, then the level of debate "has gone down" --- but I don't see that level of debate going down as a necessarily bad thing, though you seem to insinuate it does. Do you base it on the number of topics are primarily flame/trolling based versus topics that are about medals, scores, fun games, contests, etc?

Just curious.

Briefly (as I've just pm'd to say I'm retiring out again) I consider the level of debate to have dropped overall because of the basic drop in the quality of writing on display.

Quite simple really.

Every poster gone from KLOBBER to DM wrote really, really well (in an artistic sense... the validity of the content is never really my main concern) and that's what I miss with my morning coffee.

Sure there are still some good writers around (and some good new ones too). I admit that. But they are new and sometimes a touch superficial...they are not exactly steeped in the history of CC are they? Maybe in time they will be, but then maybe they'll start getting ballsy too and the cycle will repeat itself.

In that (possibly narrow) sense I believe the quality of debate has gone down. I also believe the quality of content has ALSO gone down, but that is more subjective. Basic writing talent is certainly more objective and I think it is hard to refute that GD has less than it did before the numerous bannings of the last year.

Nonetheless, it was a good question Andy and it certainly helped me to put my rabid annoyance into some perspective.

You ruined art!!! ;)

'Meep! instead of wtf' was invented at McGill University in 1839.
