Nice, I see they've got the same score currently, but King of Gods has the tiebreaker it appears!

Yeah I barely raise a eyebrow these days... another Conquerer using Mogul or whatever niche map to climb the charts. Being Conqueror is not a sign of excellent play or strategy, but rather the relentless pursuit of singular goal at all costs.

i got a ton of respect of rabbiton, mhennigan and thaiRobert tho. those are cats i would want to have in my corner should the trip sixes bust up in my house at night.

but props to any conqueror who has the dedicated to do what it takes. it's like the guy that pogosticks a marathon.

Some interesting arguments for and against, as always appear when a new Conq arrives.

My take on this is that most senior ranks tend to specialise in some way. This specialisation may not occur in maps but in style. I play team games, no cards, exclusively, purely because I enjoy working out the best potential % result to any given move within the team framework. An inexact science I know, but one that serves well over many games and provides a lot of mathematical problem solving which I absolutely enjoy doing. Does this mean I specialise? Well, yes to an extent it does. Not necessarily in maps, but in style for sure.

If a Conq specialises in a map, then there is an argument that some have carried in this thread which has credence, but how much credence depends on your cultural approach to playing the game. In essence, both arguments are correct. To specialise is a natural trait of competitiveness, whilst to play whilst eschewing that competitive attitude but purely to learn and enjoy is also a natural trait within humans.

For the record, I do not believe that any Conq can now appear without specialisation. They should be applauded for learning their chosen subject matter so thoroughly they are truly the masters of that subject, whilst all players can be applauded for anything they learn and take from their experience on cc.

Great player, but you can't put them with the other guys you listed. He farmed just as badly as anyone.
Bottom of this page…
Yep, continued here…
Not convinced?
Here's some more…
I could go on…
But I won't…
Just to spite you.

There are very few—and even less active, if any—better 6-8man speed fs esc players than kog. Granted he had to specialize to get to the top, but of the recent conquerors (and I only use recent ones as an example because of inflation—there have been non-specialized and non-farming players at the #1 spot, but not recently), who hasn't?

Fruitcake has a very good point. Let's put it in perspective: even if you just played Mogul, would any of you be able to make Conq.? I wasn't really being serious about him being the best player on the site, save in technical terms, and he knows that. Just because someone specialize to get to the top doesn't mean it's an accomplishment—one that couldn't be matched by many.

All to an extent true Fc, but I think the question is whether we see more inherent value in a chap who has specialised in seq. trips or in one who has specialised in freestyle 1vs1.

Personally, I see more value in the former...I suspect you do too.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't congratulate a player who makes it to no.1 (though KOG certainly has a bit of an attitude problem judging by the gamechat I noticed in the games he lost. Not a 'good loser' it would appear...) it is an achievement however it is done.

Often, yes.

I think the question is whether their achievements are invalidated due to them finding it (obviously) pathetically easy to win these games. However, it must also be accepted that if a player like me tried to do exactly the same thing I'd lose horribly. So not all that many of us could do it (good for them) but they seem to have to barely break a sweat (not so good).

Now I like playing seq. classic trips. Why? Because when I join against a high ranking team we all know that all of us have a very good idea of how to play that game. If I win it, then there is value in that win beyond points. Yet if a (otherwise good player...say a major) joins KOG on Mogul, KOG assumes he'll kick the crap out of his opposition. Does that lessen the achievement, even if most seq. players couldn't even begin to do it themselves? I think that is the question.

One might consider the issue with regards to sports. Playing on the classic map is rather akin to football. Everyone knows how to play it (and has played it before) so to rise the top one has to be better than a very large pool of players. Mogul could be seen like car racing. It is very fast, very few can do it to be sure, but does that lessen its validity...the sheer 'smallness' of the pool???
