My take on this is that most senior ranks tend to specialise in some way. This specialisation may not occur in maps but in style. I play team games, no cards, exclusively, purely because I enjoy working out the best potential % result to any given move within the team framework. An inexact science I know, but one that serves well over many games and provides a lot of mathematical problem solving which I absolutely enjoy doing. Does this mean I specialise? Well, yes to an extent it does. Not necessarily in maps, but in style for sure.
If a Conq specialises in a map, then there is an argument that some have carried in this thread which has credence, but how much credence depends on your cultural approach to playing the game. In essence, both arguments are correct. To specialise is a natural trait of competitiveness, whilst to play whilst eschewing that competitive attitude but purely to learn and enjoy is also a natural trait within humans.
For the record, I do not believe that any Conq can now appear without specialisation. They should be applauded for learning their chosen subject matter so thoroughly they are truly the masters of that subject, whilst all players can be applauded for anything they learn and take from their experience on cc.
