Scoreboard- Misleading?

Postby jjmracing on Wed Dec 16, 2009 7:35 pm

Ive noticed everyone looks at a persons ranking and percentage of games won...yes? but the numbers i think can be misleading... the ccs scoreboard shows individuals with big winning percentages at the top and rightfully so, but lots of the scores reflect doubles, triples, etc games, Competitors, always chastize me because ive played a large amount of games with a low percentage of wins, i have played over 5000 games and only once played a doubles game, which we won! i dont play them ,two reasons, only been invited to play once, thought it was way too childishly easy, and Dont appear to be fun. So to me it seems that the scoreboard to me ought to have another column showing your ranking in team games and one for regular gmes! just my thought! and this is also my first venture into this forum, sincerly jjmracing

There are probably better ways of doing the scoresystem, but that debate has been going on for a while, and not much has come out.
On an unrelated matter, did you mean for your username to be jimracing? Is your name Jim?

I guess...The top of the scoreboard will generally be filled with 1v1 freestyle players.
And team games are challenging. I find them to be the most so. Your so much more in control of what goes on. You don't have to worry about some idiot suiciding or deadbeating etc

Then why do I keep hearing so much whining about "My partner was kicked and it was unfair" and "His partner was kicked and it was unfair"?
...I prefer a man who will burn the flag and then wrap himself in the Constitution to a man who will burn the Constitution and then wrap himself in the flag.

You're suggestion seems to be focused entirely around winning percentage. Winning percentage doesn't mean much, so don't worry about it. With regards to a different percentage for team/non-team games, that makes no sense, because there are other categories. For example, if someone plays all 1v1s, they'll have a much higher percentage than someone who plays all 8-man games. There's just way too many categories to make a different winning percentage for all of them (at least to be outwardly visible). Personally, I never, ever look at winning percentage. Or rating, for that matter. Just score and medals is all I see.

The scoreboard issnt misleading, it shows who has the most points at this moment, nothing more, nothing less.
If you want to know who is the most skilled player, then you have to ignore the scoreboard anyway...

Not really. A "good" win percentage and score depends on the type of games you like to play. You can usually tell what games a player likes by looking at their medals. When I see standard and terminator bling, but no team games, I would say 30% would be a mark that the player is "good." When I see team bling, I tend to expect a little higher, like around 50%. When I see Speed and Freestyle gold, I tend to expect an even higher win percentage still.

All of those can be thrown off, though. Like...if you see a gold Assassin medal, you can bet there were some Assdoodles in there, which would drop the win percentage.

The point is that score and win percentage are only an indicator, not an absolute definition. You have to consider things like relative rank and whatnot.

What?

Game 1806021

That was 4-team dubs, escalating, on Great Lakes, which is a pretty small map. I can see why you would call that game childishly easy, but most team games are not when a good team is involved.

*reminisces*

Oh, why don't you play some real teams and then see if it's "childishly easy."
