If agreed upon in private game, is secret diplomacy allowed?

Postby Yuckwitte on Sat Dec 19, 2009 4:34 pm

I was wondering, if a group of friends wanted to play together, is private diplomacy allowed, on the condition that all parties agree to it. The question is merely out of curiosity, however the situation may arise some day where it will be poignant.

Technically no, but if everyone agrees to it i dont see why u would get in trouble.. as long as no one from ur group reported u in C&A... the only problem i can see is if u were playing with ur friends in a public non team game and someone suspecting u and one of ur friends for conducting secret diplomacy if they looked in ur private game with ur friends it would make their case much stronger..

i would say dont do it..

Actually I think it could be some serious fun to backs stab your friends some. :) As long as the game is private and you all agree i see no reason why not?

Indeed. some friends I have play the boardgame Diplomacy once in a while. It means you pull through a night with beer and snacks, and you play a game where anybody can go discuss with anybody in the house.
I hear it's awesome, but I have yet to try it once myself. :D

If you are in a private game with just your friends...then I personally think you can do whatever you want.
If its a public game and you have friends in it. You can have an alliance etc..however all discussions must be done in game chat.
But yer private game entirely with friends..free game i think

If I remember correctly, it was ruled that tournaments could not allow things that the rules explicitly deny...I would think the same would apply to private games.

That being said, if no one reported it, then I wouldn't think it would be ruled on.

If you are going to do it I suggest putting a disclaimer in the game chat so that people who look back at your games see it.

That is correct I spent a while arguing with OP abut making a tournament which was open to backstabbing secret alliances etc. but alas no it is not allowed in tournaments. I think it's better to be safe and if you want a secret diplomacy game you'll presumably have to play elsewhere.
