If you conquer any territory or bombard any territory to neutral during your turn, you get 1 spoil at the end of that turn.
If, at the beginning of your turn, you have a set of 3 same colour spoils or 3 different colour spoils, you can cash that set for more troops (or for slaughter of those territories in nuclear games).
If, at the beginning of your turn, you have more than 4 spoils, you will be forced to cash a set (since having 5 or more spoils guarantees you have at least one set of spoils in your hand).
