Chatting about locations during fog of war.

Postby redpine on Fri Feb 05, 2010 3:06 pm

This is what happened: I had a territory in Chicago and Sao Palo in a fog of war game. I notice that player C has 1s in north america and an army of 17 in South America. Depending on whether or not player C has a territory in Mexico City, player C could use his reinforcement move to transport his massive army into anywhere in north america. I then ask player B if this is the case. Player B responds that yes, he does have the territory of Mexico City.

Player D says that player B and I are cheating.

What should I do?

1. Stop talking about territories in chat, because that is cheating.
2. Stop talking about territories in chat, because it is poor style.
3. Stop talking about territories in chat, unless most players present say its ok.
4. Talk in private chat about others territories, which definitely is cheating.
5. Put player D on my foes list and player B on my friends list.
6. Team up with player B against player D.

Breaking fog is bad form. It defeats the purpose of having the fog.

Plus, you have no way of knowing if player B gave you good information or not.

Anyway, what difference does it make if he is "chained" all the way to NA? If you were really concerned about it, why didn't you attack Bogota?

It's always better to have information that players A and D don't have, i.e. that C has a huge stack in SA. You will know better than to attack him. More than likely if he was "chained" to NA, he'll wait until one of them (who don't know any better) starts attacking his 1s, and then he'll fort the whole stack up there and kick ass.

!@$)#@$)(*!!!!

Good point. Telling other people what I know costs more to me than what I could gain other ways. Come to think of it, player B would probably be dead at C's hands by now if he weren't too scared to take NA...

In my experience, there's a fine line between chatting fairly and chatting unfairly.

Saying something like "red has a 10 stack on Bogota" is bad form but something like "red, it benefits us both if you move your troops away from my stack" still gets your point across without giving out information to the other opponents.
