Spoils in Elemination

Postby WhisperedRen on Tue Feb 16, 2010 12:24 pm

I apologize in advance if I had missed the answer in any plainly visible rules/instruction areas; I did look.

Anyways, I was curious on how this actually works. I -think- I've seen it occur for others, but not myself. That is, I've seen someone cash in their spoils multiple times before anyone's turn, and that it is usually after eliminating a player. That lead me to assume that you would 1) Take the eliminated player's spoils, and/or 2)Cash in another set for more troops to attack in the same turn.

I am rather confused about this because I have just recently eliminated a player, but nothing out of the ordinary occurred as opposed to what I had seen before.

Every time you eliminate a player you get their spoils. You can cash in mid turn if you have more than 4 or 5 spoils. This is achieved by eliminating players for their spoils. Possible, if I understand your case correctly, a player ended their turn with 5 spoils, gaining 1 spoil for conquering a territory, and next turn cashed 2 sets. Hope this helps.

once you have 5 cards, you MUST cash in. so you cannot have 6 cards next turn.
e.g. should you have 2 cards and someone else has 4. and you conquer him. you MUST cash in (you have 5+) should you have 2 sets, you MAY (not must) cash in twice. resulting in 0 cards left (and +1 at the end of your turn)

hope this helps

Yeah, I couldn't remember if it was 4 or 5 plus.

So, understanding that, it meant that the person I eliminated had no spoils to give, and I was 3 short of cashing twice?

it means that your and his spoils together did not exceed the 4 (so no 5 or more). with 5 you can cash once, with 6 you might be able to cash twice
