Emailing truce partner in singles game

Postby I_am_DOOZY on Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:54 pm

I am currently in a terminator game where only 4 of the original 8 players remain. The 2 powers of the game made a deal to go after the weaker 2 (me being one) and settle things between themselves after the weaker 2 are eliminated (the deal basically hands the game to a certain player, admittedly so, but that's not what this complaint is about). One power player made a comment that he didn't think it would be a problem to private message each other since the truce was announced, that it's basically a team game now (which I don't even know if the other weak player is teaming up with me). Am I right in thinking this would be a violation of the rules? And is it possible to investigate whether an email has been sent from one power to the other detailing their plan of attack? That would be the only proof of actual cheating and not just the posted thought of 'maybe it is ok.'
Let me know, a formal complaint may follow.
This is game 6312623 if anyone wants a look at the specifics in the chat log.

Game 6312623

Fixed link

If they say they are talking about a truce in game chat thats legal. But not sending private mails to eachother what to do. I think its illegal in this case. In that case it is indeed violating the rules. But I am not fully certain.

Rule #2: No secret diplomacy
Any form of diplomatic discussion between opponents must be posted in the game chat in English or in a language that all opponents understand. Diplomacy includes, but is not limited to: proposing truces, negotiating alliances, and coordinating assaults. Secret diplomacy can be hard to prove, but if you suspect it you should leave the players in question appropriate ratings. If you feel certain about players engaging in secret diplomacy consider reporting them in the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum by posting a new topic.

This is the rule and it seems like coordinating aussalts should be posted to. So if they are emailing throught pms now its violating the rules. And so legal.

The investigation about sending mails isnt possible but them saying they can do it by pm in game chat tells enough.

Well, the other power seems to have squashed the one power's idea of email co-ordinating. With them co-ordinating in the game chat right now, this can just go as a normal Q & A type thing.
And I agree totally with what you've said. Hopefully anyone else in this situation that gets this idea will see this thread and have 2nd thoughts.

sending PM's to me is ok, but not actually laying out strategy.

any PM sent should be in the vein of "please see my proposal in game chat of game number ######

Any actual decision making, or strategizing needs to be IN the game chat. In terminator games you don't have a team chat options.. there's a reason for that... it's not a team game.

It may be strategicially valid for the 2nd place player to agree to the truce, and intend to knock player 3 and/or 4 out of the game to gain himself maximum points, so the actual decision is defendable, but specifics in PMs is not.

yes yes, thank you for quoting what we've all ready and adding nothing to the discussion.

Except he did; he underlined any form which would include im's, phonecalls, and friendly visits next door... in addition to pm's.

Any discussion regarding game-play must be done in game chat. Only game chat. Nothing other than game chat. At all. Ever.

Unless they are your team mate in a team game.

i get what you're saying.

but is a pm saying:

"please see game chat in game ####"

game play discussion? diplomacy? It's not actually SAYING anything about the game, game play, or proposing any form of a truce or strategy.

yes you are.
You are giving one particular player the heads up and fail to inform the other party's in the same way.
You are looking for a fine line here, something you can do and still not violate the rules. lets just say you should not do it. Even if the rules might permit it.
You should give a fair and level playing field for all players, but in the end there can be only one.

ps, you claim you are NOT saying anything about the game, yet you mention the game number or at least refer to a game. it is al the same, ther is no fine line. do not go there.
