experience for ranks

Postby xiangwang on Sun Jan 03, 2010 5:23 pm

why is there a bloody rule about experience for ranks? I'm stuck at a stupid sergeant when I should be a bloody major and it's really annoying! Not only am I considered a noob (unless people actually view my score), I can't really join in any major games until I get that symbol.

Perhaps explaining your situation when wanting to join these games. You have the score but not the rank yet, i'd be surprised if people did not understand your situation ;)

You can join games with majors... just not those created in the 'majors+' thread. Those aren't created by the site, they're created by users who don't want to take a point dive if a lower rank wins or makes a stupid move that costs them the game.

Can't you get your housemate Kiron to pull some strings?

He isn't a lower rank though? He has 2133 points, no one would be making a point dive.

In 31 games…I doubt he's missed more than a few turns.

Then he would simply have to state that he has the 2000+ score requirement.

he barely plays anymore lol, and he's not a housemate, just a friend who taught me how to play risk. He's a really good teacher though, definitely knows his stuff (though he sucks balls at escalating games, don't know why he plays them).

another thing is I want the rank symbol, it looks really nice than some stupid sergeant symbol. Btw I only missed a few turns which was my first few games where I pretty much deadbeated because I didn't how to play and so gave up. Kiron had to teach me how to play properly (mind you winning 11 games is pretty good considering 1/2 i either deadbeated or got defeated by Kiron on his specialized waterloo map).

Deadbeating half your initial games, frankly, doesn't sound like "Major" material.
Perhaps that's the reason experience is also required to earn rank; to ensure ppl who had the tendency finally got over the tendency to quit games they're losing.

oh yeah, another reason for this annoyance, is well people won't join my games because i have a sergeant ranking, if I had a major ranking more players would join my games :C

This is all true, and I'm not sure why the experience thing is there either, but did you try the "Major (+2000)" callouts group, and the Lieutenants one? I'm sure it's about the points not the rank that's the point of these groups.
Have you not thought of the advantages too? You won't get suicided into in terminator as much and may be underestimated and sneak up on people.

okay, now this is getting annoying, i'm almost a bloody colonel now but my rank is like 4 below...I know i will have so much more experienced players join my games if i was a colonel rank. Is it cheating if i get a friend and just play a bunch of 1v1 games where we pretty much trade points to keep our points neutral, but for me to gain "experience"?

you know, your situation has its benefits. If you join games with lower rankers they wont suicide on you. so enjoy while it lasts. Increasing your game count is just a matter of time -- but you can never decrease it.

But my rank (captain instead of brigadier!) seems to deter higher ranking players from joinging my games. All I ever get are people below 2000...

most public games don't have people over 2000. Majors sometimes play public, but Colonel and up almost all play clan/tournament/private only because they don't want low ranks to take their points (and yes I know you aren't a low rank). If you want to just keep complaining, go right ahead, but if you want to actually try to get it changed, post a thread in the suggestions forum.
